Lots of Tools, but a Big package

This is a great package with lots of tools and containers and places to put your own stuff (slots for forks and spoons and a knife). But this is NOT for backpacking, it's way big and heavy. It's twice the size and weight of the next GSI kitchen set! If you are only car camping, get it. If you are backpacking, forget it!

Plastic spatula melts....

Cutting board and knife are great. Knife is super sharp. Everything is plastic. If you are planning to use the spatula for cooking the usual things like eggs in a hot pan, beware. The spatula will melt. Also the salt and pepper shaker, it's cheap, the top won't close which means the spice will spill. Great idea, compact design, but aside from the knife the quality isn't very good, it's all cheap plastic.

Everything you need for car camping.

This has all of the great kitchen essentials you wish you had in the moment during breakfast. The most valuable piece is the whisk; its retracting and compact design make it perfect. The whole set was great for pancakes and eggs. The cutting board is more handy than you think since it prevents you from bloodying a picnic table and thus worrying about bears. It's even labeled on one side for veggies and the other for meat so you don't cross contaminate. This is a great kit, and a much better value than the model that's priced a few dollars less and comes with much less. Unless I'm packing dehydrated food in, I'll always bring this camping.

Its compact, and it's got your basics covered

Some aspects of this are more useful than others. The cutting board is a bit of a joke as is the 'ballistic nylon case' it comes with. That might be a bit of an oversell. These utensils however might feel kinda flimsy, but they hold up very well. Ive been using this set for about 3 years now, and its all still as good as the day I bought it. Even, sad to say, the ballistic nylon case is still in tip top shape. They clean up really easily, and this weighs nothing. I mean nothing. You could buy bigger sets, but this has everything you really need to prepare a meal. The sponge has even proven itself to be extremely reusable, I just run it through the dishwasher after a trip and its all back to brand new.

Great, but Cooking Utensils Sub-Par

This set is great - it has almost everything you need for your camp kitchen. Not included that you need to add: can opener and bottle opener. Main qualm with this set are the cooking utensils (folding spoon and spatula). They melt immediately. Should have known better, cooking on a cast iron grill making pancakes - spatula melted basically immediately. Stirring pasta sauce, spoon was the same. Awesome set to have your bases covered and nice that it's compact; will be buying utensils separately and replacing. The eating utensils are fine, though!

Best kitchen purchase

We usually spend the entire summer car camping and this has been a welcome addition. Pros: 1. It it compact and allows us to keep everything in one spot. 2. It has additional room to add extra forks or knives if desired. 3. It helps to organize the camp kitchen. 4. The spice shaker allows up to 4 ingredients. 5. The pouches combined can hold enough oil for up to 2 weeks of meals. Cons: 1. Be careful with spatula, mine has melted a tad from the hot pan. 2. Wisk is difficult to clean when mixing pancake mix.

Condiment containers leaked everywhere.

I like the kit overall, the utensils are cute and compact. The spice shaker isn't really big enough to be useful. I like the little cutting board and the zippered container. The condiment containers leaked all over everything though. I ended up having to put them both in a plastic bag, and then I just threw them out. I don't know if they were defective, or what. Now I just throw a sponge and a little bottle of dish soap in there.

Small group high adventure kit

I used it with a 6 person Boy Scout crew in Boundary Waters for a week. I had thought it of over kill until the outfitter switched our food from commercial freeze dried in those zip lock boil n serve bags to dehydrated bulk dried food. The kit was suddenly a necessity! so great for small groups, not for solo backpacking on a weekend. I love cooking, so long trips it could be great for those meals 1st day out of town after resupply.

Melted spatula needs help

We took this last weekend for my first camping trip in over 25 years. This kit is great except that I made pancakes the the spatula melted and can't be cleaned. Other than that, it works great.

Great Set....One Issue

The GSI Outdoors Gourmet Kitchen Set 11 is a great little package that comes with some well though out doo dads. The storage bag that it comes in is made with great materials and will hold up for a long time. All utensils and gadgets that come with the set is great except the spatula. This utensil in specific will melt if you are using it with high heat. Its not a big setback but after i used it i could see the rolling of the plastic and the edge where it makes first contact is slowly making small ridges. this can be fixed with some files and sandpaper. Other than the spatula every other utensil is great and compact for every camping excursion! Overall this set is great if you do plan on purchasing this product watch out for the spatula when dealing with high heat.
