I'm in love with this sleeping bag. I have tried many different sleeping bags over the years, wanting something for both car camping and backpacking, and this is it. On nights in the 40s and 50s, it's definitely too hot, but in that case I just lay with it unzipped and use it as a blanket. For a short woman, this sleeping bag is utterly purr-worthy. It packs down to be a very, very small bundle, it fluffs up quickly, it's pretty to look at, it's too comfortable to want to leave, the zipper hardly snags at all, and the hood is snuggly. Love this sleeping bag. I'm so happy to have finally found my baby.
I have only used this once, during a week long car camping trip to Sequoia/Kings Canyon. WOW! I loked forward to climbing into this bag every night. Temps were in the high 20s to low 30s at night. I was a perfect temp every night...except one night I got a bit warm and had to open up the foot end to vent a little air in. Super confortable. I had enough room to roll over but the bag is not super bulky with tons of extra air space. The zipper did catch a few times on the flap, but once yout get used to the best way to lead with a few fingers it is a non issue, even in the middle of the night if you get up half asleep. Packs down super small even in the bag it comes with. If you use a compression sack it would be able to compact to an amazingly small package. Even Home Skillet the Wonder Cat approves!
This bag is perfect for what I do. Mine is the long size which is a little wider as well. For me this is perfect because although I'm only 5'10" the bag will fit my dog when temps are low enough to worry about. I would like a lighter bag since I'm somewhat of a lightweight freak when backpacking, but the bag was on sale for a great price when I got it. I have a very lightweight synthetic 35 degree bag for summer and put together they can make a great setup for dead of winter stuff. One thing to note... I've used this bag on the beach on a very wet/dewy night and the bag remained warm after some condensation accumulated.
I have generally steered away from mummy bags as I find them too difficult to sleep in and confining. I like to go motorcycle camping and space is a premium however, so this year I decided to buy a nicer more packable bag for my trips. That meant giving up the cheap Coleman rectangle sleeping bag. I'm about 6' and 195 lbs so I tried the regular length in the store and it felt just like I remembered mummy bags, confining and clausterphobic. :( I went up to the tall size and it was fine. It was more than fine, it was a dream to sleep in. I've even pulled it out and taken naps in it in the house. It's very light, keeps my head warm, packs fairly small and has held up well so far. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. I would recommend trying the sizes out and if you're close to the max of a specific size, go up to the next one.
I needed a warmer and lighter bag to replace my old synthetic bag and saw this on offer in the Black Friday sale so I thought I would give it a try. I used it last weekend with temps down into the 20's and was very comfortable with just shorts and T-shirt. It may not be a premium brand but the quality looks good to me, I can't comment on long term durability but there is nothing to suggest it will any worse than other brands. In short, great value and great performance, you need to spend at least double the money to get anything similar and even more to get a significantly better bag. I would give it 4.5 if I could, the only negative is the zipper snags more than my other bags.
Used hiking - coldest temperature we saw was around 35 degrees and while the bag packs small enough in the provided bag, it could go a little smaller with a compression bag. Otherwise I was warm and comfortable without any extra clothing (slept in t-shirt and boxers).
I don't have a ton of experience with sleeping bags...sort of new to camping. What I can say about this bag is that I feel like I got a great value. It's comfortable, warm, fits my 6-foot, lean frame very well, and it packs down very nicely. My only qualm, and I imagine this is the case with most bags, is that the zipper gets caught pretty easily. I find this especially annoying at night when you're doing everything in the pitch black. That said, I imagine this would be the case with most bags that are made out of thin, lightweight material. So I gave it 4 stars but I feel like I got a 5-star value out of the deal. Thanks REI!!!
This is the most bang-for-your-buck three-season sleeping bag available out on the market right now. For its price, you really can't beat the warmth, the packed size, and weight. If you can get this on sale, it would be outrageous NOT to consider this if you're looking for a bag that is: rated at 20 degrees, down (not synthetic), a little over 2.5 pounds or 1.2 kilograms, and takes up 10.5 liter volume (8" x 14" sized stuff sack). Yes, you most certainly could get a warmer bag. Yes, you could definitely get a bag that packs smaller and is lighter. Yes, you could get 800-fill sleeping bag. Yes, you could get alternative down technologies (DriDown, etc.) But is it worth 2 even 4 times the price aka hundreds of dollars more for nominal difference (mostly size and packed weight)? Out of its competition, you will see that it has similar attributes as the others: weight is a little heavier, packed size and volume is a bit smaller, temperatures are relatively the same (20F +/- 4) and all for a lower price. Great for car camping, casual camping, sleeping over, backpacking. All-around, a solid, comfortable bag for three season use. Honestly, I find this bag quite warm and mostly use it as a quilt when paired with my Therm-A-Rest NeoAir XTherm (R-value of 5.7). Because of its price, I would definitely recommend it to anyone on a budget, starting off backpacking, and is looking for a no-frills, gimmicky sleeping bag.
I LOVE this sleeping bag! I've used it primarily for car camping, but also for a couple backpacking trips. It's light and compact, and relatively easy to get back into the stuff sack. I've slept in this sleeping bag very comfortably in 30 - 40 degree weather, and found the draft collar useful for colder nights. For the price, I doubt you could find a better bag. I'd highly recommend it.
I bought three of these. One for myself and one for each of my two teenage boys. This is simply an excellent sleeping bag! We use it mainly for canoeing and camping and I really like the relatively compact size and low weight (for the price) and it's ability to keep you at a decent temperature over a wide temperature range. My boys even use it un-zipped at indoor sleep-overs. There are some reports of the zipper snagging easily. I find this untrue and we have no problems with snagging at all. It has some nifty little features that we actually use: The ability to be un-zipped from the bottom (actually a little ways up from the bottom) to stick a foot out when it gets too hot, the loops for hanging it up for drying and airing out and the string for tightening the hood. I am really happy with this bag.
