Awesome
This thing is great, but I wouldn't count on it for anything more than an inflator. I love it because I don't want my moist, bacteria laden breath going into my hard to ventilate sleeping pad. Not only over time will it increase it's weight because of the moisture content, it's just nasty. Just aim the open end of this into the wind and it will fill up on it's own to about 75%, then just one of my breaths blown into it fills it up nicely. Then, squeeze that into your sleeping pad, for mine, the Big Agnes Q-Core SL, about 8-10 times. It's way faster and easier than doing all that huffing and puffing yourself. By the way, I love my new sleeping pad too!
Genius product.
I had always hesitated to invest in inflatable sleeping pads because I didn't want to carry a small, motorized pump. This pumphouse solves that issue. It takes about 5 minutes (10 bag fulls) to fully inflate any Big Agnes sleeping pad and then you're done. In the meantime you can also use this as a stuff sack or a pillow (with a jacket inside).
simple, lightweight, dual use item!
I purchased a Big Agnes insulated air core at REI and didn't think about the added weight of using a battery powered pump like I do when car camping. I thought I really messed up until I found this pumphouse product. I've used it on 2 trips so far and it works great. I have a huge pad so it took probably 15 fills to finish, but it sure beats blowing it up manually. I even helped a buddy blow up his pool float with this pump, even though it didn't fit it well it still worked. I like that it is dual use and VERY light, so it's really an excellent solution.
Great!
Having one of the biggest backcountry air pads on the market (Q Core SL long wide - 78"x 25"x3.5") can be very taxing on my lungs at the end of a long day on trail. I wanted to get something to help inflate my pad without getting light-headed. This pump was the perfect fit - lightweight (1.5oz) and inflated my pad in less than 5 minutes - about 10 bag fulls. I did try it as a water carrier. The nozzle end leaked a bit, but the rest was OK. Even though it seemed to hold up OK, I don't think I'll being using it as a shower or water carrier every day. It is nice to know that's it's versatile enough to handle those duties in a pinch. I used it as a stuff sack/dry bag for my down sleeping quilt, which provided an extra layer of protection in case I got caught in a downpour or fell into a creek. Also, this is probably obvious, but it works with other brand air pads too. It inflated my friends' Thermarest XTherm quickly and with ease.
Easy
No issues on 2 BA pads, saved a lot of breath. Lent to friends with Thermarest pads and it worked with those also. I don't think it will work with Exped, but they have their own. Takes about 10 bag fulls on a large pad, top it off with a few breaths and good to go. I put my quilt inside it as a dry sack in my pack and that worked fine too. Much better than blowing up by mouth.
light and functional
Works great to pump up your mattress. Keeps moisture from your breath out of the mattress. Doubles as a stuff sack. and No it is not made to blow up and use as a pillow as I have seen in other reviews. I wish it was bigger for more air volume. but at 1.5 oz I cant complain.
Clever device works flawlessly and weighs little
The first time I used this I laughed out loud in my tent in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. I had not tried it at home and so had no idea how it worked. (I have used enough Big Agnes products to feel comfortable hitting the trail with confidence that all the kinks have been worked out by Big Agnes in Colorado.) Using this thing is kind of like having your own elephant trunk, but it works like a charm. I am able to completely fill my large Big Agnes pad with only 13 fills of the pump bag, and so there is no moisture from my breath in my pad. It does take a little practice, but after a few times you become an expert. It weighs next to nothing, and it packs down so small that it fits easily in the same Big Agnes stuff sack that came with my sleeping pad. Very clever and effective product!
Not like ExPed bag, but cheaper
Dimension placed flat is 19.5x12 as described. 8in is the diameter. Capacity description is totally wrong. It is ca 1000 cuin = ca 15 liters, much smaller then Schnozel by ExPed. Real weight 45g =1.6oz. Not easy to put on the valve, especially at winter. Das not work with ExPed until you made the adapter (simple 1-2in long piece of plastic hose, diameter of valve). Not so easy to transport a water or use as the shower. Will be leaking at both ends (valve and closet opening). So no way you place the bag exposed to sun for warming the water. Most water will be gone. Overall 3.5*
Drawstring doesn't seal around pad valve
Two of us really tried to make this work and couldn't. The drawstring is an elastic band doubled over like a hair tie is when you make a ponytail. It's about the thickness and stiffness of a hair tie, too. Thus, there's space for air to get through where the elastic crosses over itself and it's hard to place on the pad valve because of the stiff elastic and excess fabric around it. I could imagine it possibly forming a workable seal around a longer nozzle but it completely refused to stay on the valve of my Big Agnes Double Z Air Sleeping Pad. I returned it.
Works great for many things; needs adaptor!
I bought this along with my new BA Double Z mattress. Like another reviewer, I couldn't make it work, so I made an adaptor that works great. BA needs to provide an adaptor for their Double Z product valves in order to make this a 5-star item. I plan to use it for my gravity water filter system. It leaks a bit right at the cinch closure, but I may be able to seal the unsealed seams right there to cure the leak. Overall, brilliant and definitely worth the money and weight.
