By far the best belt I've ever owned.
I agree completely with the previous positive reviewer. I've had some terrible fabric belts, but this one has been virtually perfect, and I've worn it daily for several years in every conceivable situation. The belt stays flat (doesn't roll), and the buckle has been bombproof, offering (as the other guy said) infinite micro adjustment and gripping tightly - never ever slipping. I'm writing my review to get the rating up on this excellent product. REI should offer a broader selection of Bison T-lock belts; a much more extensive range of colors and patterns is available. I didn't know about the wide (38mm) style until I read the other review, and I intend to purchase one right now.
Great Belt and Warranty Service Too
I have 2 Bison T Lock belts of different webbing styles and have owned them for several years. Was pretty happy with them, light, functional, adjustable, comfortable. Didn't think much about them really, its a belt, whats there to think about? Well, not paying attention I left one on the floor while packing gear for a trip and stepped on the buckle. Understandably, snap it goes. Completely my fault. I write Bison and they said to send it in and they'd fix it...for free, including return postage. Got to love a great belt and a company that backs them up.
lasts forever
This is the second Bison belt that I have purchased from REI. The first I purchased, similar model, different color, about 10 years ago. I have worn that belt pretty regularly and it still looks new. Neither the webbing nor the buckle has worn. I hardly ever wear my leather belts at this point, except when I have to wear a suit. These are the most comfortable belts, infinitely adjustable, light, good-looking (I often get compliments when I wear these belts), and cruelty free. And they are not very costly! Just amazing!
Buckle materials
I purchased the Bison in the Coyote color a number of years ago and really liked it. After wearing it for years it began to fray on the end. When I saw the current Bison belt on the website I was happy that I could get a replacement. The original belt had had a simple to use metal buckle. My fault for not recognizing that this belt had a plastic buckle. I don’t think the new belt with a plastic buckle is going to last the 5-8 years like the original. Finally I’m not a mechanical engineer by any means but I found the buckle hard to open initially and was worried that made out plastic i would break if I tried to force it.
Poor design buckles
Had two of these belts both plastic buckles broke under normal use
Adjustable, Comfortable and Durable
I needed a belt to wear while backpacking. I was looking for something that was adjustable as I expect to lose weight during my AT thru hike next year. With this belt, you can dial in the perfect fit and once the buckle is locked down, it WILL NOT SLIP during an active day on the trail. I was also looking for a belt with a flat profile that would be comfortable underneath a padded backpack hip belt and not interfere with the front buckle of the backpack hip belt. This belt is very thin and has a flat buckle which makes for the perfect flat profile underneath my backpack hip belt. The buckle is made out of a hard scratch resistant plastic. There have been a couple of times when I thought for sure that I had scratched it but so far, no scratches or dings. This belt is so light weight and trouble free, you don't even know it's there. After researching other backpacking belts, this wins on quality and bang for the buck. It is exactly what I was looking for at a very fair price point vs. competitive offerings.
Disappointed
This belt was exactly what I was looking for. Plastic buckle and adjustable length. No need to remove at airports and not likely to scratch furniture or cars. I actually purchased two. I was immediately disappointed. First, it was extremely difficult to get the belt end through the buckle. Second, the end of the belt was cut with a sharp corner right at my stomach. I decided to cut the end so it tapered the other direction, following recommendations I found online. But it was impossible to fuse the ends with a candle flat enough to fit through the buckle. I wonder if the designers ever wore their product, or if the plastic molds have worn. Where is the quality control? Clearly some previous buyers have liked this more than me.
Buckle breaks
The webbing is very stiff, which is nice. The small tabs which allow the T-lock buckle/cam to rotate have broken while in use. These pivots are very small and easily break. REI allowed an exchange the first time and Bison replaced the buckle for $2 plus I was out the shipping to them. I'll probably have this one fixed again, but this should not happen. I really hate poor design.
Great All Around Belt
I do really like the lightweight nature of this belt. It is also not flimsy, and not too stiff so they got that right. The buckle is plastic, and I do like how the mechanism works. It also doesn't stick way out from your waistline like some buckles. The plastic is more prone to breaking so that is my only con to this belt.
Overall, a good belt.
I have several Bison T-Lock belts, as well as T-Lock belts by other brands. I love the T-Lock closure since it's infinitely adjustable and easy to adjust. My only gripe is that sometimes I get a T-Lock that doesn't snap when closed. That snap is reassuring that the belt if fastened. Instead, this belt, like a few others, doesn't snap so I'm not sure it's secure. Other benefits of T-Lock belts is that they're made of a very strong, unbreakable polymer making the belt very lightweight. It's also able to be worn through TSA security and medical imaging equipment such as MRI.
