Best
I got this for my nephew. I live on a lake so we are always on the water.I did a lot of research before I got this and it's awesome wish it came in adult size. The other infant vests are too bulky and he did not like them. He would wear this all day no prob could even sleep in it. We have a friend that got the mdi and it's a lot bigger and bulkier not as nice. You won't be sorry. I have to get the child size now that he is over 30. We have used it since he was 6 months.
Great lifejacket
We got this lifejacket for our son to use starting at 10 months. We love it. He is now almost two and starting to grow out of it as he is almost 30 lb. When he was just learning to swim we liked how it automatically flipped him so he was on his back and not face in the water. Now that he is more comfortable he can go front to back without difficulty. We like the handle in case he goes in we can quickly grab him back out.
Test it before relying on it
I purchased for my 27 lb. son as he wasn't quite in the weight range (30-50 lbs.) for the next size up. We tested it in our pool and it repeatedly flipped him from his back to face down in the water and it did NOT roll him back onto his back. I returned the item and tried his older sister's jacket in the next size up (30-50 lbs.) and it kept him on his back with his face out of the water. This jacket is highly recommended by numerous websites and receives great reviews by consumers in large part but after my experience with the jacket, when I researched the reviews further, I found that the few negative reviews were for similarly situated consumers - parents with children at the upper end of the weight range, and with the same issue - flipping the child face down rather than face up out of the water. So, just be wary if your child is in the upper end of the recommended weight range for this jacket and ALWAYS do a supervised trial run BEFORE relying on any lifejacket.
Pretty good - but could be better
We're using this for our 10-month old. She's 20 lbs. and 30" tall. At this height/weight, the bouyancy is great BUT, the fit is too tall. When she sits, the jacket presses up against her chin. This is tricky and uncomfortable when we're underway in the sailboat. Having said that, it keeps her safe and is one of the few jackets in that size range that is comfortable enough for long periods.
