Worth the Investment

I didn't have a chain checker before this and I think it would have been worth it to buy earlier. These are the simple kind that tell you just whether it's past .5 or .75; they don't tell you the actual amount of wear. For the price I think I could have gotten one earlier and saved piece of mind. If you don't know how to use this or a novice it's very easy to learn and can save you hassle of going to the shop. One of the most bang for your buck beginning cycling tools.

Essential

Replace the chain at .5% wear to get the most life out of the cassette and chainrings. Don’t be like me.

Not designed for SRAM Flattop chains!

This tool does the job, but be warned it will not adequately measure wear on SRAM flattop chains. You need the CC-4 chain checker for that.

An ounce of prevention...

is worth a pound of cure! Stretched a chain on my MTB earlier this year and had not realized it - then shifting issues happening - then I ruined my rear cassette before figuring out my chain was WAY past due for replacement. Ouch. I will not make that mistake again with the help of this low cost and easy to use tool!

Highly effective chain checking tool. Extremely easy to use and solid construction. The ease of use makes it more likely that I'll check my chain regularly for wear and replace it on time.

Easy to use, a very valuable tool to keep your chain, a relatively inexpensive component of your drivetrain, from damgin your cassette and chainrings. A must have.

Couldn't be easier.

This is a simple tool that is so easy to use. It gives you a go/no-go measurement of the amount that your chain has worn. One side measures whether you are close to, and the other indicates you are past time to replace your chain.
