Better than the Organic Pads

The metallic are quite a bit better than avid's organic pads, although they can be noiser, squeal under light braking, but that's fine it scares off the tourists. The big advantage is when they warm up on a descent they grab better and never seem to fade. The brake lever pressure is similar to the organic pads but better when you really need a lot of braking power. Installation is easy except for spreading the pistons to the fully retracted position, they are a bear to get all the way open with the suggested screwdriver prying method. I use small wood wedges pushed together, and it works better, but you need to make some.

Awesome power

I barely have to use one finger on my Elixir CR's. On the down side, I think either there is too much material or the bleed block/spacer I used was a little thin. I bought these with a gift card in addition to buying an Avid bleed kit to overhaul my brakes. I made sure to buy Avid because I was afraid of manufacturing differences/tolerances when using it with the bleed kit. I also lightly sanded my rotors with fine grit paper. There is a slight drag but I don't notice it while riding and its just a matter of time till that goes away. After the overhaul and bedding, they feel awesome. These are my 2nd set on this bike. The first set didn't fade at all at Downieville.

Switching back to Organic

They slipped right in but after the first ride produced a horrendous squealing! So, I removed them again and sanded my rotors and pads. I cleaned everything with electrical contact cleaner (because that's what I had). They have been quieter, but still produce a squeal at low speeds with light braking. They work, but are noticeably less grippy than the organic pads which are still installed on the front brake. I hope that by switching back to organic I can get that squeal to go away.

Sick upgrade!

My pads were getting a little old on my Elixr 3's. I was worried about compatibility, but these slipped right in and after following the bedding in procedure it was like I had a whole new set of brakes.
