Great summer protection
This hat has served me well for all my warm weather sun protection for the last year. It is lightweight, but stays put even with the chin strap a little loose. Breathes pretty well due to the generous vent holes. However, those same vent holes also mean some sun exposure for those with thinner hair. I had a little pink-scalp after a 5hr trek. But, the brim shields the face and neck very well which is great as I can't stand tanlines on my face! The sweatband is the only other issue as it saturates easily in the AZ sun and I have wipe my forehead a lot. It still runs a lot cooler than the Dorfman Pacific. All in all, a great hat for the price.
Great hat for the money..
I purchased the hat for fishing and a volunteer event. The volunteer event was on a very warm and sunny day (i.e. 90+ with little/no breeze). I combined the hat with the PFG hoodie to provide the sunblock. I volunteered for 6 hours in the sun ( traffic control and first aid tent) and did not receive any sun burns or felt over heated. The brim is wide enough to cover my face and ears from the sun. I have long hair and have a hard time finding hats that fit. The other problem that I have is when I am active the hats do not stay on very long. The fit and the draw string help keep the hat on for protection. I can not wait until I can use the hat fishing .
Poor quality
It protectes the wearer well from the sun and breathes well too. The biggest problem is that it's not durable, the straws broke after a single use around the dome and although I'm still using it from time to time but it's not going to last.
Epic Floppiness
This hat is what all hats aspire to be. Every hat that we passed on the trail and on the river was wicked jealous.
Protective Shade
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I usually wear a regular ball cap with a columbia freezer zero neck gaiter, but I would still have small areas that would be affected by the sun. This fishing hat fixes those issues. It provides total face coverage and when I use it in conjunction with my gaiter, I'm totally protected. No more sun burn in the small areas around my sunglass's frame.
Nice hat for a day in the sun
I wear the hat primarily for sun protection during soccer games. Windy days are a problem but that comes with the wide brim. Comfy but a little snug for me with a 8 1/4 hat size. It seems cool enough; I didn't get too hot in it. The kids think this is the least dorky hat we could find.
Excellent sun protection
I was searching for a wide-brimmed hat to wear while doing yard work and even just hanging out outdoors when I came across this one. It seemed like a fair price for the item and the reviews showed that most people were pleased with the product, so I purchased it. The color of the fabric is true to what is shown on the website. The only downside is that it is a little big for my head. I measured the way it said to and ordered the size that I fit in. I would purchase the small, not the medium, if I were to order again. It doesn't look bad on my head, but it does fall down on my forehead if I bend over. Does an excellent job at protecting me from the sun though! It's wide enough to get the entire neck, but not so wide that it's obnoxious.
Love the large size and ventilation
Perfect fit for my husband's extra large noggin. He'd prefer a longer chin strap so it could hang over his day pack when he's not wearing it. He's also concerned that it might not hold up in the long run. We did spy the very same hat in a store in Silver City, NM for $8. Guess Columbia needed more money!
Great sun hat!
This hat is great, and very true to size. There is a padded sweat band across the inside in the front, which helps it stay in place and feel comfortable for day-long use. The brim is firm enough to stay in place in high winds, but enough give so as the had doesn't feel like it's being ripped from your head. Definitely recommend for long days on the beach or boat. Since the hat is made of straw, it will eventually succumb to the elements, but until then, I will enjoy it!
fashionable yet handy on breezy days
Pre-teen daughter used this hat on our European cruise just a couple weeks ago. She loved the purple highlights to give a little more fashion flair. Wadded it up and packed it in a small pocket, came out 20 hours later looking fine. Functionally, was very handy to have in breezy conditions where the rest of us were having to use one hand to hold on to our hats from blowing off.
