My best buy of 2011 ...

I finally paid the big bucks for this jacket and even my relatively high expectations have been met. Bought to replace 'expedition weight' long sleeve fleece top (even though Nano jacket weighs 1.7 oz more) and I am absolutely delighted. Recently got back from 10 weeks in Sucre, Bolivia (volunteer guide with non-profit Condortrekkers), where I wore it just about every minute I wasn't sleeping. Early mornings with my hands in my pockets waiting for sun to rise, at or slightly below 32° F (no wind), I won't claim I was comfortable, but I survived (only a thin shirt underneath) and never considered packing more warmth/weight on subsequent trips. It was filthy, but washed up real nice in my home machine. Too bad a spark from a campfire burned a hole in it, but it gave me a chance to see the insides - photo attached. Spark burned through inner liner (un-quilted), too, but doesn't seem to have affected structural integrity or created any problems other than ugly factor. Highly recommended - I'll buy another after I've destroyed this one. P.S. Stuffed into its zipped inner 'security pocket' it also makes a much better pillow than the fleece.

Nice, but not very warm

I really liked the cut and look of this jacket, and it's lightweight and packable. However, I was looking for something that could serve as a nice, warm mid-layer, and this just isn't very warm. I found that I would start getting pretty cold if I stopped being active for any length of time at around 35F. I know the Nano Puff isn't meant to be a stand-alone piece, but the Patagonia Down Sweater is considerably warmer for the same price and weight (provided it doesn't get wet). Overall, this is a nice jacket, but you should make sure it matches your needs before you cut those tags.

Best. Jacket. Ever.

Back country hiker, have always worn just a North Face shell with a fleece liner when necessary. Used the 20% fall coupon to try this out based on other positive reviews. Have to say that I agree with all of them. This super light weight jacket is amazingly warm and more wind resistant than I expected. 1 mile walk to work this morning (in Chicago) in 26F and 15mph wind with windchill of 14F, and I never felt cold for a minute. I walk up to my 9th floor office (get exercise where you can, right?) and always have to take this off before I start or else it turns into an oven. I'll wear this all winter, and will only add the shell if I need to. The reviews are right, this was a super choice. On a side note, I bought the silver one and I get a ton of compliments on how it looks (I'm no Brad Pitt - not used to getting style compliments!). Last note, I usually run between a M and L so I ordered both. The L was too big (wife agreed) and the M fits perfect. I'm about 168# and 5'10" if that helps you.

Big coat warmth that packs down small

I am ALWAYS cold when camping if its cold out. My last trip i had 7 different shirts on...most thick fleece. Everyone there (camp 4 in Yosemite) had this style of puffy jacket. I realized this is what i need to add to my layering to replace about 4 layers. Before this year i thought puffy jackets only came in winter full on coats and gangster style, then i found the rev cloud but they were sold out of black large, the only reasonable color, come on REI get with it on your REI brand clothing. I got this coat on sale and its been working great so far for night time when its a little colder here. I cant wait to try it when Im camping in the cold. Hopefully my friends wont be able to joke about me needing so many layers.

comfy & warm

The Nano Puff is so comfy and warm on a COLD & WET San Francisco night. Best use is for running to the corner Pizza joint for last call with just a T-shirt underneath the Puff. "Mm mm mm mm mm ... toasty".

pACKS LIGHT, LESS FILLING

What sold me on the Nano Puff was reading about a PCT thru hiker who thought it was terrific on her trip through the Sierra high country. That and a 20% member coupon cinched the deal. It was nice to shed my fleece jacket and some ounces for this on a backpack trip. It packs down to next to nothing. It's also done well as a layer for cross country skiing. The downside are that the sleeves are a little short for me. A bigger concern though is the vest pocket zipper. It continually snags the material and doesn't operate smooth anymore. I have to be very careful and I've gotten it stuck really bad a few times (with my phone inside the pocket). If it fails altogether then I won't be able to pack the jacket using the vest pocket.

This jacket is awesome!

Bought this jacket 6 mos ago and have used it almost daily. It is amazingly warm & incredibly light, just love wearing it. I use mine skiing and hiking. I am careful with it. I don't rockclimb with it unless with an outer shell for abrasion protection. If you use it as an insulation layer it gives you frictionless movement not found in multiple layers of pile which bind. Buy it you will love it.

Incredible Jacket!!!

I purchased the TNF Blaze jacket. I was really impressed with the jacket, however with my arm length the jacket was to short. So, returning that jacket I purchased the Nano Puff by Patagonia! Once I got it and put it on, I immediately noticed the great fit to my body! The jacket was lighter, seemed stronger and warmer than the TNF jacket. I have no complaints about this jacket! Great jacket, great for outdoor adventures and especially great for a cold belay at the crag!

Great for hiking or regular seasonal use

Picked up one of these on clearance to try as a replacement for my soft shell jacket and fleece layers, especially for hiking and backpacking. I initially wasn't too excited about the color (red), but stock was limited and the price was right. Turns out I got used to the color and don't mind wearing it around town. The jacket is well designed and seems reasonably robust considering how light it is. In the backcountry it works well as a mid-layer under a heavy down jacket or rainproof shell. For this I chose synthetic over down for the major reason it will still insulate when wet. I would not trust it to be "water-resistant" and shed water when used as an outer garment in the rain. Personally I find it difficult to justify paying multiple hundreds of dollars for these types of jackets, but this one was a reasonable deal at clearance time and I'm really happy with it.

NanoPuff

Everything about is well thought out for my use. The hood stays around your neck to keep your neck warm. This might be tight fit for any type of helmet fitting. As soon as you zip this jacket up it starts to lock in your body heat. I sweat quite a bit so I added pit zipps to help regulate my body temp. I have a 45-46 inch chest and bought a Lg. The Xl was quite big and the sleeves too long. I fit in XL from most Patagonia garments. Time will tell on how long the elastic wrists last, they typically fail after a couple years of moderate wear. I bought the color black and surprisingly this NanoPuff Hoody doesn't dress down slacks in inclement weather creeps in. I love the fact that you can slip the whole jacket into the internal pocket to use as a pillow for a plane ride, or a football in a pinch to add entertainment with my nephews. I was going to return it at first because it was too hot, but my wife loved the fit and talked me into the pit zipps. I'm glad she did. This is now my favorite, my R1, El Cap, Synchilla full zip, Fireball, have taken a backseat as a stand alone jacket.
