Works for reglueing skins

I used this to completely redo the glue on my skins. 1 tube covers +1 skin, so I needed two tubes for both skins. My best tips: watch several youtube videos first to see variations in technique; white gas works as a solvent for clean up; when applying the new glue, work in ~6" lengths at a time since the glue begins to stiffen up in a few minutes and becomes harder to evenly spread; after the glue has been spread and left to air out for +8 hours, iron the glue with parchment paper strips to help smooth the final surface and get a 'close to factory finish'; the fumes really are strong so excellent ventilation is important. I didn't reinstall the center fabric strip BD puts on their skins and it's fine; the skins just stick together and to the skis a little stronger now.

Re-Glue Success

I purchased a used touring setup and the skin glue was in rough shape. It was super sticky and left residue all over the ski bases. After a bit of research I decided to try and re-glue the skins and chose this glue to apply (the skins were G3 universals). The glue removal was messy at best. Applying this glue was straightforward. It went on smooth, I used a foam brush to spread it and it did great. After curing I did a pass with parchment paper and an iron to ensure the application was even and let it cool. Skins are like new and work like a charm. Warning, It SMELLS. The packaging is not exaggerating.

Complete skin re-glue

Read a lot of positive reviews so went with this for the complete re-glue care after stripping off the old glue using a heat gun and a metal scraper. You need about a tube and a half to do both skins. It easy to use too much so be mindful. I was working in an environment that wasn’t too warm and used the heat gun on the tube prior to opening it up which proved really useful in applying and spreading the glue around evenly. Also worked in a well-ventilated space and wore a respirator. Safety first! The skins are currently stored with Black Diamond’s “cheat sheet” skin savers for the summer. I have absolute confidence the glue will perform super well based on all the reviews I’ve read.

Surprisingly easy to use!

I was prepared to spend hours applying new glue to my skins. This took about 5 minutes per skin to spread evenly. Hang and let dry overnight, done. I used a popsicle stick to apply, nothing fancy. The time commitment in renewing your skins is in getting the glue off. Use a heat gun (hair-dryer) and a putty knife. No toxic odors on the glue removal step, but the new glue is like rubber cement, probably want to do it outdoors or pre-set up everything and prepare to be done in 5 minutes to limit exposure.

works well.

I pin the skins to a board and use the iron/brown paper bag technique to remove the old glue. I spread the new glue out with a plastic paddle, then apply the clear plastic sheet that come with the skins when they are new to the newly applied glue and gently iron the the glue on medium heat to spread the glue out. I let them cool and the plastic sheet peels cleanly leaving a shiny, smooth, sticky surface, like when the skins were brand new...

Works great

I have had great luck re-gluing several pairs of skins with this, and I am still using a 10-year old pair of nylon skins that stick good as new. I use it to re-glue areas of the skin that get dirtiest and stop sticking like the tails, under your foot, and by the tips. Using a heat gun and metal putty knife the old glue comes off fairly easy. Only drawback is the fumes are bad.

The Gold Standard

My old skins gave up the glue so my options were get new skins or try this re-glue thing. Followed the simple directions and I am surprised and impressed with the results. This glue works well, doesn't come off on the ski, does pickup pine needles and debris like all other skins but not horribly. It's not too hard to rip the skin either, so on the whole I am very pleased.

Mandatory part of any serious skinners home kit

My family of 4 backcountry skis on light weight gear so we each carry 2 sets of skins. My son and I do a few skimo races each year. I typically ski a long adventure or two and almost all my skiing is human powered. All this to say I get to refresh at least a few pairs of skins each season if not more often. All I use is Gold Label. I strip off the old glue using the iron and brown paper bag strip method which is definitely the way to go and then just apply Gold Label with an old credit card, scraping it out even and very thin. I have had it last for a few seasons on skins that are used for a few thousand feet on a weekly basis (and dont get the abuse teens will give it). I read in a review response here that said Gold Label is only for touch up but like I said, I completely reapply and it works great. Highly recommended. One word of caution- when applying, only apply a very fine coat- finer than you think you need. If you put it on thick it doesnt work as intended.
