Needs modifying

The bar takes a lot of stress from the clampons, due to the two piece construction. I find that the clampons cannot be tightened enough on insulated snow boots to keep them from moving around and coming off occasionally. I solved this by drilling a 1/4 inch hole in the clampon front and rear piece and using a 1/4 inch bolt with a 1" head through the boot and the clampon. The head is large enough not to pull through the boot, and the clampon stays firm. Black Diamond could offer a clampon unit with small thorns to grab the boot sole. That would go a long way towards keeping the clampon in place.

Works great!

I wear a 13 boot so obviously I had to get these guys. They work great and I haven't had any problems with them slipping out of place or anything like that. Even with these on the crampons can still collapse down into a manageable size for packing. I would definitely recommend to all my fellow big footed people out there.

Great for fitting crampons over ski boots

I use these with EU Men 46 Alfa Outback and EU M 48 Alfa Polar boots. Great fit and no need to bring and change into mountaineering boots on glacier crossings. I used them recently on a Vatnajokull traverse with strap on BD crampons, perfect fit and no problems.

Works as it should but ....

So I bought the contact crampons and the bar that's included won't fit my size 11 salomon quest 4d, let alone my scarpas. Says will fit up to size 12 ... not sure what size they're measuring. I would guess the stock bars that come with the contact crampons will fit up to a size 10 for most boots. Simple solution ... offer an option to pick which bar when ordering and be realistic as to what size shoe the short bar will fit. So 3 stars because they do what they should and minus 2 stars for black diamonds lack of offering the customer options without spending more money.

EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAY THEY ARE

These are simply an extended version of what comes with Black Diamond Contact Strap-on Crampons(and other Black Diamond crampons). If your hiking boot is larger than 11 or winter insulated boots larger than 10 you will probably need these.

Now my crampons fit!

Worked great! Regular sized inserts didn't fit my large size 49 boots, so it was great to know I could still buy BD crampons. I used them with Seracs, but I know people who also use them on Sabertooths. Slide right in, takes about 30 seconds to install!

My Serac Crampons now fit

I have the Serac Crampons, I wear an 11.5 leather boot and the standard length center bar is too short for my boots. WIth this ctr bar my crampons now fit fine and looks like they will also work for a pair of Scarpa Inverno's I just picked up.

Great for larger feet

I thought I could get away with not getting these but to get a proper fit you really do need to. My shoe is a 13 & just didn’t get in there quite properly enough with the regular up to 12 bar but the extension bar was perfect

It does what it does

After reading all the reviews, I know I needed these. With the boots I got for my visit to Svalbard in January. There were only 2 extra holes left after fitting on boot. Boot is size 14

Great bars

these bars do what they are supposed to do, not quite sure what would be the difference with the Long Center Bars, they feel very similar to the Standard ones
