I'm a vegetarian, and I don't buy leather hats. I needed a hat that provided good sun protection, comfort, style, and versatility, and I found it with this hat. I retired my previous favorite felt hat because this one fit better, feels better, and is more versatile. The cinch cord works great for wind and running, plus you can push the cord cinch down and put the hat on your back when you don't feel like wearing it. All in all, the best hat I've ever owned!

Better for Cold than Warm.

I used this hat for a climb up South Sister in Oregon. The hike was hard work. At the lower elevations where the temps were warmer the hat was a bit hot because there isn't a lot of ventilation. As the altitude increased the temperature dropped and the hat was quite handy for keeping the sun off, and in higher winds where the wind could have blown it off. It's also quite good for rain as it is water resistant.

My new favorite camping/hiking hat!

My wife bought this hat for me a few weeks ago for camping and hiking for a few reasons. 1st - it looks like Indiana Jones'! It is very comfortable with the ability to shape the brim how you need, especially as the sun changes direction throughout the day. It was pouring down rain when we were setting up our tent and it repelled the water very well for the amount of rain we had, kept my head dry and the hat dried out pretty quick as well. Material is very sturdy and of good quality. The sun can be brutal in Texas, and the had was a little warm when I wasn't walking around, such as sitting around the camp, so I was venting it a little here and there but I think I do that with all my hats. I receive many compliments when I wear this hat, I absolutely love it!

Great hat, awful strap

This hat is lightweight, attractive, and soft to the touch. I've taken it on several hikes. I found it to be cool and capable of keeping rain and sun off my face. It's very bendy, allowing you to shape it however you'd like. All good stuff. The very bad thing about this hat is the incredibly stiff and scratchy cord that is supposed to keep the hat from flying off your head. About .5 mile into my first hike, it had rubbed my neck raw. Not fun. When I got home, I tried a variety of methods for softening leather, but couldn't get it to loosen up. I ended up going to a hobby store and picking up my own piece of suede and replacing it. Much better.

Rough and Tumble...

Was in Portland and didn't bring a hat to protect my skin cancer prone neck. For the price, it's a great hat... holds shape well, came looking beat-up, so I didn't try to protect it. Got out on rain and the sun (almost simultaneously, as is Portland), and it worked great. drawstring will hold it on my head, and the rain pours off. Back in MN, and on 80F days, it's a bit hot, but doesn't seem to show a sweat stain given it's dark color. Wearing on the North shore hiking was great, and just takes a couple minutes to bend it back into shape out of the rucksack.

Run a little larger than the sizing charts

Just got this today and love the look and feel of the hat. It should be great for sun and occasional rain protection. My only problem is the sizing chart seems to run a little large. I measured with a tailors tape measure, at exactly 22 1/8 inches around the back and center of my forehead, on a level plane. I selected the medium size based of the provided sizing charts. The fit runs large with about a 1/4 - 3/8 inch gap, fits rather loose and has wiggle room back and forth when placed squarly on my head. I will be returning it for a small and look forward to getting a lot of use out of it. Just wish the sizing chart was correct for me and didn't have to return it but that is the way it goes with online purchases.

FAV HAT EVER

I LOVE this hat. I am a small woman and the med fits me great. The quality and style are perfect. You can move the brim around to shape it exactly how you like it and it will stay. I gave it more of a cowboy hat kind of look. The color and texture are awesome! The only thing they did wrong on this hat is the little brackets around the hat (which i love the look of) catch your hair. I am going to have a seamstress put some sort of lining over those because I love the hat that much.

awesome hat!

I just got this hat last week. Already it's kept me warm, kept the sun off, and seems to have some sort of forcefield to keep the rain away. The brim has a wire in it so you can shape it however you want. I guess that the down side to that is that if you toss it in a corner you need to re-shape it. But this really is a great hat that I can see wearing for many years to come. And I've already gotten a lot of compliments on how nice it looks.

Great Hat for Camping

I originally ordered the X-Large size based on the dimensions given online. The x-large hat was a bit too grand, but I was able to easily exchange it at my local REI for a Large size, just one day before heading out for a weekend camping trip. The hat functioned perfectly: shielding me from the sun during the day, and protecting me from an unexpected rain storm the last morning while breaking down camp. The hat appears to be well made, and I plan to getting many years of use out of it.
