Great sun protection

I bought this shirt for a trip where I knew I'd be outside a lot in a hot, dry climate. Since the shirt's fabric is lightweight you don't have to roll up the sleeves even in the sun, which helped keep me cool. The shirt has also has excellent ventilation, so any breeze or other airflow moved right through the shirt. The vents in the back are very helpful - though be alert that they are a little less effective if you have on some sort of backpack (no fault of the shirt's, though). For maximum sun protection I recommend unbuttoning the collar and "popping" it up to shield your neck (at the risk of looking preppy) as well as wearing a hat of some sort.

Kept me cool and unburned

First of all: I don't fish. I bought this as a sun shirt to wear during a multi-day outdoor event (automobile race). It kept me *very* comfortable -- I dare say more comfortable than I would have been in short sleeves. Sitting for hours in direct sunlight, 80+ degrees F. It also did just fine with a backpack; I did not notice any issues at all there. Best of all, it did the job I bought it for. At the end of 4 days the only burn I had was on the backs of my hands. I'm a convert. Lots of pockets, a bit distracting in fact for my purposes, but fishermen may love them. I didn't love the velcro closures though, hence 4 stars instead of 5. I also bought another similar shirt from another maker and liked the pockets on that one better.

Great shirt but wish it had a “tailored fit”

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a larger man with broad shoulders, a muscular chest, yet a small waist, I didn’t think I’d ever find a good fitting summer shirt that didn’t balloon out like a tent. Then I found this shirt. I love the material and how it feels. Almost like I’m wearing nothing at all! Also like the fit, though I do wish there was a “tailored” style with the waist tapered more. I have an upside down triangle shape, and while this does fit better than some, there’s definitely a lot of material around the midsection that I don’t need. Takes away from my body shape. Still, a great shirt. Will be ordering at least one of every color. I officially have a new hot humid summer top! Thanks!

Kayak Fishing Essential

I absolutely love these shirts. They are super lightweight, cool, and comfortable. With all the time I spend on the water chasing largemouth and striped bass, I have become very aware of the dangers of sun exposure. Wearing these shirts, I can keep them buttoned under the hottest sun without boiling alive. I have yet to find one negative aspect of this line of shirts. It is a non-negotioable for the kayak fisherman. Besides fishing, it doubles as great beach wear or casual wear.

Size runs VERY large!

The shirt is great, but please note that for this style of Columbia Tamiami II shirt, the sizes run VERY large. I have two other Columbia shirts where a Medium fits fine, but I tried two of these in M and they were both huge on me -- I thought they were an L, mislabeled. I laid the M on top of another Columbia L I wore when I was 25 pounds heavier, and the M was exactly the same as an old L. I reordered the shirt as a Small, and it fits fine, the only S I have in my entire wardrobe.

Great Product

Bought this shirt for a week long fly-in fishing trip to northern Canada. It was great, when the sun was beating down it kept me nice and cool and protected me from the sun. It is extremely comfortable and lets in great air circulation. Cleans very easily so it's great on a remote trip if you have to rinse anything while youre there, also dries very quickly so it's ready to go, or if you get wet out in the field. I would highly recommend this shirt, quality also seems very high so far.

Beautiful - But Sizing Problem

I love the look and feel of this shirt but what the heck is going on with its sizing? I had first purchased a Large - it was enormous; I was swimming in it. I then exchanged it for a Medium. It is still too big in the shoulders and sleeves. Is it really supposed to be like this? I cannot believe I should order a Small, because I've been wearing medium-sized shirts for the last 50 years or and an occasional large depending on the cut of the shirt.

Great lightweight "sunscreen"

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I buy these Tamiami long sleeve shirts to wear on my walks, for yard work, and to use as a sun jacket at kids' games. I got the light blue one, this time, and it is a very pretty blue. The mesh-like material is breathable, and unless the humidity is in the 90's, it doesn't stick to my skin. They come out of the washer and dryer without wrinkles, and even seem to shed dirt and mud stains. I buy a men's small, even though I am female, because they are roomier, have better pockets, and the sleeves cover my hands, so I only have to put sunscreen on my face and neck. This shirt in a small actually fits me better in the chest than the women's large.
