Great Pants
Like Carhartts but way more freedom of movement. My only complaint: the crotch wore out in about 5 months of regular use. This doesn't happen with my Carhartts. I don't blow crotches out on my pants. But I had multiple holes wearing through, just below the zipper, before the gusseted part. I patched it, then I started getting more holes around the patch. Seems like a weak point. But I love the pants and just put on a brand new pair this morning. The old ones would have lasted many more months if it hadn't been for the hole in the crotch. This new pair will be a good test to see if my first pair just had a flaw, or if they're all that way.
Rugged, Durable Pants
I really like these pants, they are thick and feel like they will last me many years. I was hesistant to buy because they are heavy and thick, which does not pair well with the humid NC climate in the summer. The thickness really just has to do with the quality stitching and the durable material, so hey, what can you do. I have washed the pants about 4 times now, and I do notice so definite fading (which appears in white streaks), but it is actually pretty good looking fading that will look even better as I let them age around my thighs for a couple more years. I do recommend these if you want a pair of pants that will last a while, it is worth the money.
These did not hold up
The pros: These are nice and warm, and offer a lot of freedom of movement for being this heavy. The con: These rip so very easily, in the lateral direction (with the grain) of the fabric. The first wearing, I caught the twig on a bush, and instantly ripped a 2 inch slice in the fabric. Within 3 wearings, there were small slits forming laterally, radiating out from each rivet in the back pockets. within 6 uses, these are now worthless. Now, I like to rock scramble, and I am hard on my pants, but my regular blue denim jeans last at least twice as long. And for what these cost, I am very disappointed.
Great fit but fatal flaws
These are heavy pants that look and feel great the first time you wear them. They don't feel cheap and hold up to hard wear (I walked through thorny gorse on a an English moor with them). But, the pants have two flaws in workmanship that forced me to return them: --The button snap popped open at inopportune moments. --The dye--at least in the Indigo color I bought--faded in streaks down the legs after the first wash. They looked terrible. REI took them back no problem, and a store associate gave me advice on how to wash jeans properly. That's not the problem with these pants, and I wouldn't recommend them until Kuhl works out the kinks.
Button Snap opens on its own. Nice thick material
These pants fit the perfect build in that I was looking for a pair of rough work type pants. I wanted something for projects around the house and could also wear around town without looking like a construction worker. Everything is fantastic with these pants with one major exception. The Center Top Button Snap (above the zipper) opens by itself. I'm not sure why Kuhl chose a type of button snap that I've never seen before. The pants fit me well, but the snap will pop open if I kneel or sit down. The solution is to wear a belt which keeps the snap from moving. Unfortunately, since the pants are a nice fit on my 32" waist, I didn't plan on wearing a belt with them.
Poor customer service, bad workmanship
I purchased a pair of Khul pants to take on a 2 week vacation overseas. After wearing and washing them 1 time, I packed them for the trip. On the first day of the out on the trip, I noticed a small hole near the pocket. Once I got back in the States, I sent them to Khul for repair/replacement. Unfortunately, they sent me a very short letter stating the issue falls outside of their warranty. "Generally speaking, our products are covered against defects in materials and workmanship. blah blah blah" Well if this isn't a defect in material and workmanship I don't know what is. Needless to say, I will not purchase another pair of their clothing and I recommend others doing the same.
Most Comfort Ever
these are the most comfortable work?casual pants ! Ultimately if they were $10 less and had 2-3 more belt loops , I would never by Carhartt again !, and I would buy 3 pairs a year.
These pants fit like a glove...
I (my husband) wear these (and Revolvr) for two week stretches and still get compliments! In addition to there functionality, they just look great. Note that the Rydr doesn't have the inner front button closure so taking care of business is a little easier! While my preference for summer is the lighter Revolvr, these are suitable for year-round wear. Note that I carry an HTC Incredible which BARELY fits into the phone pocket. I don't think some of the newer phones (think Galaxy 3) with larger screens would fit.
Pay attention to the different options
I had a pair of Kuhl "Rydr Lean" pants and was trying to add a second pair since they work so well out in the woods against thorny bushes and fit great. This pair came and when I tried them on they felt like I was wearing loose pajamas. Kuhl has a number of different fits for the same 'model' of pant so the lesson here was to pay attention to the specific model you're ordering. Not all Rydrs are the same. Unfortunately REI doesn't carry all versions. That said, the Rydr Lean pants that I had before are great which is why I was trying to buy another pair. I ended up buying Free Rydrs and they fit much better.
Front pockets, questionable longevity.
I bought a pair of the Rydr pants. I had a pair of them years ago and wore them for years until I outgrew them. They were truly great. The front pockets on this current pair, I purchased in January, 2026 are made of a thin, stretchy, lightweight fabric. That feels like you should not constantly carry heavy camping items, a knife, keys, riding tools as a hole will form causing you to lose that cherished knife. If I remember correctly, the last pair I had the front pockets were made of the same material as the pants. It’s a bummer. I’ve worn them twice and I’m already considering that these pockets won’t last as long as the pants! Fit is good. The rest of the pants, quality-wise seem unchanged and strong.
