saved me multiple times
these shot blocks are perfect to keep in your pack when your on the verge of needing a little boost. My boyfriend packed these on a hike in zion last summer and it was the first 100 degree day I had been in all summer. I was super dehydrated and felt like I was about to puke. I was drinking tons of water but nothing helped. He forced me to eat this weird gummy shot block (Im not into power bars or any thing like these) so I refused but he kept nagging. I felt the effects immediately and now I store a box of these orange ones with caffeine at my house. Im not sure which ones have caffeine and which ones dont but I do believe that really helped.
Quick boost for mountain biking
I use these on a regular basis and they are awesome! If you need energy before or during your trail adventures, these Clif Shot Bloks are essential. They are light weight, easy to pack, come in a variety of flavors and have different nutritional needs such as added sodium, different levels of caffeine, etc. A must for every trail!
Hurrah for Bloks!
I used to think electrolytes were one of those things that only super-athletes worried about, like VO2-Max or TRIMP scores. Then I started getting headaches and nausea during my long runs as the runs got longer and the temperature began to rise. Although a salt packet might be cheaper, these blocks taste a heck of a lot better, and they do a pretty good job of keeping away the headaches and nausea that come with low electrolyte levels. The packaging makes it pretty easy to eat too--don't have to worry about sticky goo getting all over the place. I haven't tried many flavors, but the cranberry is pretty good. Just remember to chase them with plenty of H20.
Good alternative to gels
I am sick of gels by now and really skeptical to try any of the funky running foods that keep showing on the market. Bought these as they were on sale at REI. I found them very useful on a long race yesterday. They are easy to eat, taste good and the chewy part make them feel more "food" than gels. Easy to open and eat with one hand, on the go and easy to store after opening without the chance of making a mess. Also, makes it easier to eat less calories more often compared to gels (once open, you have to swallow it all). Downside is they have relatively low Na and K content so I carried electrolyte tablets.
Better than Gu
Used these on a 13-mile trail run last weekend, ate two packs in 2hrs and 23 minutes. Why they're better: -Tube pack makes it easy to squeeze one out on the run -No edges of a gel packet to cut your lips/cheeks -No sticky gel residue on hands or in pockets -Easy to ration out food for a more consistent intake, no spikes -Easy to chew, taste better than gel -Fit easily in the pocket of a handheld if the pack is cut/broken in half
The building Blok of life
120 miles into my bike ride I needed something to keep the gears greasy and turnin' - and I'm not talking about my bike. I ate 2 of these bad boys and I was solid for another 50. I could live off these things, but if I did, I'd probably pull a forest gump and never stop - I'd be biking the panamerican highway if I could.
Fuel for exercise
Clif is one of the rare companies that actually read the scientific studies. Clif shot bloks have exactly what you need to stay at full energy for long workouts or races. The clif gels are also good, but the block format is unbeatable for summer training. They taste fine, but the emphasis is having the right sugars and minerals. Different flavours have different levels of caffeine and sodium, so choose to suit your personal fueling needs.
Quick tasty and easy
Stuffed in a pocket, taken one (fine, I prefer two) at a time, replenished as needed: these are the ticket if water isn’t that handy and you don’t want to be huffing dry dusty granola onto the trail at every breath. (Or inopportunely sucking a hunk down the wrong pipe.) I don’t even particularly like chewing them. They dissolve rapidly enough; why rush the pleasure? Shop a variety of other flavors if this doesn’t suit you (it probably will). Haven’t noted an energy deficiency yet, so I’m gonna say check there too. When picnic isn’t your style today but miles and E are, pack these. You can get several into a pocket of most trail-ready pants and shorts.
Space Food
When climbing mountains my crew of ricks eats these all the time. We call them space food because of the scientific type energy boost they give us. Buy a pack of margarita flavor and save it for when your muscles really start to ache. The sodium provides a notable boost and some relief.
Great for long runs
I've been looking for replacements to the usual sugary energy gels. I prefer something salty when I'm out using up a lot of energy, so the Margarita flavor fit my needs. I hear that you either hate it or love it, and you really need to like salt to like the Margarita. It was a strange combination at first, lime/lemony with a salty taste, but I ended up really liking it and it helped me get through my long run. The texture is like eating a box of Dots.
