The Marmot Limelight 3 was exactly what I was looking for. I spent a lot of time researching different tents (Mutha Hubba, Half Dome T3, etc.), and this one seemed to be exactly what I wanted. I wanted a tent that my girlfriend and I would have a comfortable amount of room in, but still light enough that I can use it for backpacking trips. Pros: There is easily enough head room for both of us to sit up in (3+), the vents provide a place to look out at night, very easy to set up, two big doors, well built, and if weight is an issue then you can just pack the rainfly and foot print. Cons: slightly heavy (but its worth the compromise), and long poles.
This is an awesome tent. I did some research and I ended up picking the Limelight 3. It came with some nice features: a footprint, gear loft and rain fly. I have used this tent in some all night rain down pours and this tent kept me dry and warm all night long. This tent is amazingly sturdy, I just used this tent in a terrible wind storm and it was truly awesome, not a problem at all. The only down side to this tent is space. I'm 6'1, 230 lbs and my wife is 5'3 110 lbs and I can't see how you would put another person in this tent with out being extremely cramped. Bottom line, pick this tent up if your looking for great quality at a low price.
review update to add photos. great tent! original review: Went camping with girlfriend and our two dogs. Plenty of space for people, pups and gear. We debated between purchasing the Limelight 2 vs Limelight 3 ... since our "backpacking" only included hikes up to a few miles and usually with the pups, we opted for the Limelight 3. The extra door and vestibule were very helpful and great for not disturbing the other person. The added height made it extra spacious. It would be a little heavy for one person to carry, but splitting the weight between 2 or 3 for long hikers is quite reasonable. Great that it come with footprint and gearloft for free. Lots of pockets for stashing things like phones, leashes, headlamps, etc ...
After reading all the specs and reviews, I bought this tent for my Na Pali Coast trip. Seemed to be the best tent for the money. What can I say? I wasn't disappointed. First off, it is the easiest tent to set up that I have ever had, and I've had more than a few. Second, it held up to the strong coastal winds that it routinely got blasted by for four straight days. Third, it rained all night the second night, a little the other nights and kept us completely dry. Barely rained during the day which was nice... So it did all I could ask a tent to do, it comes at a great price and on top of that the accessories are included. I couldn't be happier.
I've been using this tent for about a year now. It has survived 8 backpacking trips and surprisingly is still in near perfect condition. In the rain I stay completely dry, and because of the storage area under the rain fly my things stay dry as well. The tent is quite cozy for two people and crammed (but usable) with three. I use it primarily for shorter hikes, because in my opinion the tent is a little on the heavy side. I find the ventilation to be rather poor but much better than other tents I have used. Over all I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind a few extra pounds for a very well put together shelter.
I was really needing a much larger tent then my one man which I've had for years. I saw this tent go on sale for[$] and couldn't pass it up. Setup time was super fast. It's rated a three man tent but it really is just a comfortable two man and could possibly fit a dog or small child. The best part of this tent is having two doors and two vestibules. I took this up to 4200ft over the weekend and got rained on, Snowed on, hailed on and the tent was awesome. Best tent I've owed so far.
First use was on a three day fly fishing trip. I had the tent set up in less than five minutes(by myself) Our base camp was in a valley so there was a lot of dew and not one drop of water was in the tent. The ventilation was great, plenty of room for gear, the two vestibules are nice, great air flow. The tent is a bit heavy but well worth the extra pounds. Very happy with the tent and REI letting me set it up in the store, we had to move a few things out of the way.
I love this tent. Plenty of room for two and a dog comfortably, three people would be a stretch. My head and feet do not touch the tent walls at all and I'm 6'2". This tent is very easy to set up and very durable. It lasted through a decent hail storm in the Tetons and didn't collect any condensation. Only cons are that it is a bit on the heavy side. However, it's not that big of a deal when the tent is split up. Overall, I'm really glad I bought this tent.
I've taken my Limelight 3 backpacking into the Rocky Mountains many times and it works like a champ! It has tons of room! My girlfriend my dog and I have no issues sleeping comfortably. I love being able to sit up and not hit my head on the ceiling. The two vestibules are great, plenty of room for gear and for cooking breakfast on cold mornings. And best of all, I didn't have to spend extra money on a gear loft or footprint because they are included.
Let me start with saying that the only reason I did not give this tent 5 stars is because it's a little cramped as a 3 person tent even when the third person is a child. We used this tent over last weekend on Loft Mt (around 3300 ft)in Shenandoah while hurricane Irene was moving through. It was a hard night to sleep through due to the heavy rains and 60 mph wind gusts. I am glad to say that in the morning the inside of the tent was completely dry not even a drop on condensation. The rain fly is extremely water and wind proof, the tent itself is very sturdy when using all the stakes. All zippers worked well without a single hang up. On the plus side its nice being able to set up the tent and taking it down under the cover of the fly which can be put up first and taken down last. I would recommend this tent to anybody wanting a comfortable 2 person tent or maybe two people and a dog. Best tent I have owned by far.
