I replaced an old pack with this model, and for the most part, I love it. It's so much more comfortable to carry because of the well-designed and padded straps and belts. However, the one thing I dislike is that it only has one large compartment and a smaller one on the front. My last pack wasn't very comfortable, but it had a third section in between the large and small ones that I preferred putting food in, so that any potential messy accidents didn't involve my extra clothes, field guides, etc. in the large compartment. However, by packing in reusable plastic containers, I can overcome this issue. Still, I miss that third, narrower compartment. Otherwise, this is the perfect day pack.
I use for long hiking trips. It can carry all the stuff I need and plenty of water as well. Very comfortable! My last hiking was a non stop 4:30 hours strenuous hiking, the pack wasn't in any moment uncomfortable.
For any outdoor adventure, this backpack is attached to me at all times. Or should I say that I'm attached to it? There's nothing super duper fancy about this pack, which I love - I like to keep it simple and as functional as possible. No crazy straps that no one really uses or decorative attachments that make it look more stupid than cool. It's also really comfortable, and the right size for a day trip, hiking, and perfect for traveling (great carry on - super easy to access your stuff). I even stuff my things in it for work and go. So much better to carry around than a purse that will only give me shoulder problems in the end. Overall, this pack is practically a security blanket for me.
I spend a lot of time researching my purchases before I buy pretty much anything over $50 - especially if it is going to be a high use item. I use this backpack for everything: Gym, day trips, weekend trips, office, beach, hikes. The padding is very comfortable, fully adjustable (I'm 5'8" and have no trouble getting this to fit on a longer torso (hey, I have short legs in comparison), and the color (purple) is very nice. I love that it has a hole for camelback (or similar) nozzle if you have one! The "cargo net" is a nice feature too. It only had two zippered compartments, but I feel I can fit so much in here! I've had it about 4 months and have no complaints - it even washes out pretty easily!
Great pack. Used it for the first time on my most recent trip and I was very impressed. Very comfortable pack.
I asked an REI salesman to recommend an rainproof day-pack for hiking in rain and carrying gear on and off Skiffs and Pangas - I was traveling to the Eastern Amazon in Peru and the Galapagos. He recommended the Trail 25. At first I thought it was a little too simple and perhaps too cheap. I bought it anyway and worked wonderfully on the trip. Nothing got wet from splash or rain (note the pack is not meant to be waterproof) and I could get it easily on and off wearing a life vest or wet suit. I'm replacing my hydration pack with this pack for local day hikes.
I use this backpack for 8 to 12 mile hikes. I needed a pack that would hold a 3 liter water bladder, food, plus extra clothing for chilly mountain peaks. I absolutely love this pack. The side pockets are perfect for frequent use items, such as camera and compass, which are easily reachable without having to take the pack off. There are holes on each side of the pack to thread the bladder hose through, then you can slip the hose underneath an elastic strap on either side. The hip and sternum straps are very comfortable and adjustable. I like the two compartment design so that I don't have to search through a million pockets when I don't remember which one I put something in. I really like the bright red color too. Thanks REI!
I found myself in need of a new school/work backpack and decided to get this as a dual purpose day hiking/book bag. It works well and is comfortable. The only issue I have is that the bag is a little too short to make use of a hip belt, it stabilizes the pack, but you can't really use it to transfer weight to your hips. Not a big deal unless you plan on really filling this thing up. I've had it for six months and the strap is tearing, so I will need to take it back. If a replacement gives me similar problem, I would give it less stars.
I purchased this backpack before a two week trip across Kenya. The pack held up great. On the trip over I was able to pack all my camera gear, change of clothes, and passport easily. Through all the safaris the pack was comfortable and easy to get on and off. Walking through the slums I had no worries about anyone trying to steal my stuff either because it's not easy to unzip all the pockets on this pack. Very happy with this pack and look forward to taking it with me to Belize and Costa Rica next year.
I'm new to the day hike, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I really liked this pack. My group hiked upwards of 7-9 miles per day, and my pack was so comfortable, I'd forget to take it off whenever we stopped. It had plenty of room for all the things I might need and some of the extra's I threw in, as well. I used the bladder and tubes from my camelbak system with the built in clips and pouch in the backpack. It really helped keep me hydrated at the high elevations in Yellowstone.
