I have had a pair of OR Rocky mtn high gaiters for YEARS - they are still in perfect condition. Unfortunately, my old gaiters are a small, and my calves are bigger than they were 15 years ago - gaiters won't fasten over ski pants any more. So, I ordered a new pair in a size medium. Length is NOT correct and is more than an inch longer than my old ones- the new gaiters are more than 17" long, not 15 3/4 - hitting me right under the knee. Width isn't that much more than my old smalls. I will ski this weekend and see if they rub behind my knees, but right now I am disappointed that sizes seem to be a suggestion, not a fact and will probably be shopping for a different brand next week.
After struggling for a couple of years with gaiters that have a zipper up the back (so easy to put on in a 15-20mph subzero wind, yes?) I was really excited to get these this morning for Christmas. Then I tried them on. If they won't fit over PJ legs they certainly won't fit over fleece and windpants... what a bummer. I see from other reviews that fit has been an issue. Perhaps a larger size/different brand will be better.
I found that the OSR Women's Verglas model has a much much better fit and should be very satisfactory.
I love these gaiters for blazing trails on snowy hills. Only downside, they are more difficult to get on while trying to get going on a cold morning. I mess up the line up 1/2 the time and have to redo the bottom a couple times to get it right. I like how sturdy they are compared to my other gaiters, I just wish the odd laces grip mechanism were backwards.
After reading the other reviews I though I should add mine. Have had these for over 2 yrs now and consider these very durable gaiters for all types of recreation. They stay up fine for me and I like the way the closure works, very secure. Used on hikes, climbs, snowshoe trips, etc. and they are still in decent shape with little wear.
I ordered by my shoe size (9) and it runs large. Could not keep them from sliding down my leg, but I think that was mainly because the buckle wouldn't stay snapped. Would have been better if they had drawstring cord or a snap. Once you do get the buckle to stay, there's so much excess strap that it flops around with no where to tuck.
I've used these gaiters in deep snow as well as heavy rain and mud. They fit very well and stay up nicely. Unlike gaiters I've owned in the past, they dont become sweat buckets. I found them quick and easy to take on and off, in light hikers or heavy moutaineering boots.
My son used them for snoeshowing, including off-trail. He said they were excellent!
The boot strap was too short to reach the buckle
