Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for me Based on my favorable experiences with the Aquatainer, I bought one of these Jumbos. Used it to refill my popup camper water tank when I'm not hooked up to water. Like it's slim design because I can strap it to my rear bumber. The handle placement makes it much easier to pour compared to the Aquatainers. Hasn't developed leaks yet as other posters have mentioned, but I do only use it several times/yr. As to the spout and spigot leaks, this is an easily solved problem for both the Aquatainers and Jumbotainers. Wrap the threads 3x with plumbers' teflon tape and the leaks stop. This little trick also allows you to keep the spigot properly positioned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Bought this about a year ago, used it several times on camping trips and offroading trips (very rugged terrain). At first I was annoyed with the spout, as when I tightened it down it pointed up, so when I wanted to use it I had to loosen the spout and water would leak out. Annoying, but I could live with it. I didn't over-tighten the spout as it was obvious doing so would just crack it, which would not be good... recently I went to the hardware store and picked up a $1 rubber gasket/washer thing from the plumbing section (I actually took the spout in the store to make sure I got the right size). This fixed the spout and now it points down and there was no leaking at all. I'm planning on buying another one of these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap materials, but good for awhile After 3 years this jug sprung a leak in the lower corner where other reviewers have mentioned the material is too thin too withstand long term use. At about the same time the jug started leaking, the spigot also broke by way of a crack which caused the spigot to fall apart. I do have to admit this jug has been easy to carry, load, and the spigot was convenient before it broke. It also lasted through pretty heavy use before the leak and spigot shut it down. However, I have a 6 gallon Reliance jug with the pour spout that is older than this 7 gallon spigot model... and it is still going strong! The 6 gallon pour spout model uses better materials and has no spigot to break.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from For the price it's good at first i was enamored with the container(s), after several long hunting/camping trips in varying temps i understood what it's best for. car camping and gentle use. the spout is succeptible to breaking, both from tightening and from shearing, broken three already. the container leaks from the vent hole, even with the plug installed. eventually all of mine developed cracks/leaks in the bottom(s). the trailer would be soaked before i made it half way out of town. could be from freezing temps, could be from heavy use, could be from poor casting. don't know. that being all said, i'm about to buy a few more. for the price if they last 2 years i'm satisfied that i got money's worth. just be aware of it's limitations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Container I needed a water container to serve three purposes. 1) Store water in my apt in case of an emergency 2) Store water at the camp site 3) Haul water to my deck to water my plants This does a great job for all three purposes. Love the cap/spicket design, and the mouth is wide enought for any kind of spout for filling it. Its quite heavy when full, but the plastic feels strong enough to handle it. I had the other square Reliance container, but got this one instead because of the extra handle on the top/back. This allows you to pour from the jug. Great all around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good option We have been using the Reliance Aqua-tainer for years, but wanted a different shape for more packing options. This one gives us those options. I noticed reviews about leaking, but decided to try this anyway, and mine did have a small leak around the large cap, when I first filled it up. I fixed it easily. My findings: inside the cap is a large nylon perimeter washer, whitish ( like plumbing drain washers). Tightening the cap forces the washer onto the jug. Notice the jug has a flat surface to seal against the washer. But notice carefully, and there are "ribbons" of material around the perimeter of the flat surface. I used a razor blade to carefully cut those off. Be careful not to cut or damage the flat surface that mates with the cap washer, otherwise you might create leaks. After I performed this task, the cap no longer leaks. I also used the Teflon plumber's tape (I use the better blue tape instead of the common white) around the spout threads because it lubricates the threads and provides a better seal. I don't find I need to over tighten either the cap or the spout for leak free performance...and I can align the spout in the vertical position much easier. Highly recommended doing this. The air hole could be better. Once you pull it out of the hole, it is very hard pushing it back in. I whittled the plug a little and may drill the hole a tad larger so I don't need to hammer the plug back in. Not a major problem, but it could be better. One last idea. I find water coming out of spouts to be rather "spluttery" - instead of say a nice stream. I use a copper plumbing reducer which fits perfectly over the spout and improves the stream. It is nothing more than a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer and costs a buck or less.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't camp without it anymore! I can't believe I ever camped without this! It takes up very little space in my trunk area, because of the way it was designed. Easy to lift, because of the two seperate grips. I waste very little water washing hands and dishes due to the spigot. *I also love the fact that the spigot can be turned into the container when in transit (something not shown in the picture) this way you don't have to worry about damaging it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from problems I didn't experience the leaking others have, but I only used it for 10 seconds before returning it. The spigot screws in to the body. Well, you'd better hope the threads line up just right or the spigot will point sideways, ergo, you can't pour water out of it. Mine was this way from new, but I would think this failure will eventually happen to all of these. Each time the spigot is screwed on, there is a chance for the plastic threads to "stretch", forcing you to screw it on tighter so it doesn't leak, and wallah, your spigot points sideways

I have one of these that I used last year, but didn't dry and store properly. What is the best way to thoroughly clean it?

Asked by: ItMustBeJames
The container can be cleaned with 1 quart of water and 2 tablespoons of bleach. Make sure to rinse the container out with clean water after and dry before storing.

Does REI carry replacement parts...namely the spigot?

Asked by: tSparks
REI does not carry the replacement spigot. The spigot can be purchased directly from the Reliance web site.
