Great little kettle
I've taken this on several overnights and it will now be a permanent addition to my cook kit. I used to take a Snow Peak 700 but missed the ability to hang over a fire. This kettle solves that problem.. as long as you keep the flames from licking up to the orange part of the handle. It's a little awkward to pack but its easy enough just to put your kit in a small stuff sack. My GSI nesting mug/cup fits into the opening so I have some organizational versatility in packing a lighter, stove, bandana, etc. This kettle is super light and seems to be built to last so I look forward to many years of use out of this little guy.
Great item, but recommend the "Ketalist" set
As mentioned by others, the kettle is perfect for one or two campers who are mostly boiling water. The first store I went to didn't have the "Ketalist" which is the version that has a nesting mug/cup w/ lid. Once I ran across the Ketalist, I thought it was well worth the extra $10 or so to get a cup/bowl that fits so perfectly in the kettle. I tried a number of other options and could never find a cup that fit as well so I returned my kettle and bought the Ketalist. (I couldn't find anywhere to buy the cup/bowl as an add on either). BTW, the spoon is rubbish as mentioned by other reviewers. It's almost like a practical joke.
Great little kettle
Used this kettle on a backpack and it's fantastic. Boils water quickly and easily and made meal time a breeze. Wish they had a slightly larger size, but this is bigger than it seems. Wish I would have bought this years ago. Worth bringing along the rest of my pots and pans. So light you just don't notice when packing it.
Setting my fancy titanium pot aside...
I bought this tea kettle as a "backup" when backpacking with more than 2 people but for hikes when we pack freeze-dried food (i.e. only need to boil water), this has become my primary pot. Great functional design! I find it easier handling when hot with the handle on *top* as opposed to the usual side handle. The handle is stable and stays upright. Also, nice not having to get the lid off in order to pour. The spout doesn't drip or dribble and it's easy to control the flow. Just like, well, a tea kettle! :) Weight is comparable to my fancy titanium pot with the same capacity... and cost less than half!
Very cool little kettle
Another item I bought because of the coolness factor and then fell in love with after only a few uses. Obviously it's use is for boiling water which it does very well given the thin material used. I use it paired with the pocket rocket stove. You can fit this stove with it's case into the kettle but the canister is slightly to big to join it. You can fit the canister by itself though. I use it for making tea (it is a tea kettle after all haha) and making dehydrated meals. It is very tiny and before when I had only seen it online I assumed it was much bigger but it is a very small, cute little kettle. It feels lighter than most titanium things I have seen. Saw it at REI and bought it right there for about $25. Worth every penny and is cool looking to boot.
Great start for a cook kit
I haven't used the kettle yet but my backpacking buddy has one and that's what sold me. I've been playing around with different cook kit combos and after seeing his in action sold me on it. For the price vs weight ratio it is a good option for those of us worried about weight but can't or won't spend the high dollars on a pot that will only save you another ounce or two but cost you three times as much just to boil water in. Fits my cat stove, lighter, bandana, wind screen, heat reflector, and the removable handle inside. The lid has a tight fit and the kettle is a nearly indestructible. Great product!
Just what we needed
I bought this on a last minute whim. It was inexpensive and boiled water and that's exactly what we were looking for before our spontaneous camping trip. Many trips later, it's still proving to be a good buy. It does not compact, and is noisier than expected. Fortunately we discovered a way to break down our stove so that it fits neatly inside, so this container now protects our stove from being crushed which has redeemed it from the con of being slightly clunky. It blackened a bit on the bottom from the heat, but hasn't rubbed off on our gear after we give it a good scrub. The rubber handle makes it easy to pour hot water without getting burned.
Never Knew I Could Love A Kettle Until Now
I bought this thing before a camping trip last year through Tennessee. Since then it's accompanied me on many backpacking and camping trips. I'm the type of person who eats a ton of dehydrated food while backpacking so all I really need is a stove and something to boil water in. This is perfect, lightweight and cools down really fast so you can pack it back up faster. So far it's held up amazingly- minor scratches if anything. I hope this little thing lasts forever. I highly recommend this kettle.
AWESOME!
This teapot is awesome! It's very light. If you are not careful, the rubber on the handle will melt. Water boils quickly and it pours easily. I have two problems with it and they are minor. I wish it was a little bigger. A full pot was not enough to completely fill two GSI mugs(for coffee). But, water will boil so quickly in this thing, that it really was not a problem to just refill it. The othe rproblem is that the lid does not stay on. I used it to hold all of our coffee needs and I had to tape the lid to keep everything in. do not let those two minor issues keep you from buying this. It is absolutely awesome! When we go canoeing this summer, I think we will ditch the pots and pans and just bring this!
fuel efficient and handy
The dark anodizing and squat shape, I believe, improve the heat absorption considerably. I used an identically shaped bare aluminum kettle for many years; this uses less fuel. I got 5 full days including one snowmelt on a solo trip with 375mL white gas with a Whisperlite MSR stove. A tight-fitting windscreen is important. Bend the ends of the bale so it can't come loose -- or you may want to store the bale inside the pot. Pack it carefully, the protruding spout is vulnerable (that's what did in my old one). If the stove fit inside, it would be perfect.
