you can fix it.

This is the only ultra-light shower I could find. Being light, it is also fragile. Don't drop it (yes I did)! Also, the valve leaks but you can fix it. Unscrew the valve fully and then pull firmly to remove it. Look inside the cap for a small o-ring. Get another o-ring of the same size and add it on top of the original. Heat the cap with a hairdrier and push it back on...careful not to cut the inside of the bag with the back of the valve(yes I did). Best to reach inside the bag to press the valve cap on. The best patch for this bag is the Thermarest adhesive/cover patch combo. Good luck!

alternative use

I bought this for use on the JMT 9 years ago and never really used it, but when my shower was out of order a few years ago, I decided to try using this as a temporary replacement, but then, being a complete fanatic about water conservation (I have a very lush and large garden in water starved northern california and still manage to consistently be an extreme water saver per the local utility districts measure...), I decided to keep on using it. I've now been using it daily for over 2 years daily, and it is just starting to leak. I came on line to order a new one, but having read the reviews, I'm thinking I may be able to fix the valve instead!

Quirky shower that needs a mesh filter

Pros: * Small and light * Shower head sprinkles pretty well when it isn't clogged Cons: * Shower is EXTREMELY susceptible to clogging from tiny debris -- use filtered water only, or glue-in a small, round brass mesh screen (like we did) - they are available at smoke shops or maybe a hardware store * Over-tightening the shower head will cause a flimsy rubber washer to warp, resulting in a leak -- and it is too easy to over-tighten it! * The 20lb water bag can be difficult to hang -- gotta hang it about 18" higher than you ever think you'll need it to be, because the whole contraption just sags enormously under its weight

Well worth it!!!

I used this on a 12 day backpacking trip through Yosemite in Aughust of last year. By turning the valve on and off 3 people showered off of one fill. I also used it to haul extra water for filtering and dish washing. Going to sleep clean every night after 15 mile days was unbeatable. Packed up it's about the size of a 2 packs of playing cards stacked on top of each other. The string for hanging is thin as some said but not weak or difficult and it's plenty long. Don't expect super hot water. I let it sit on the granite in the sun for an hour late in the day and it was warm enough to be comfortable. Bottom line: Get it. Everyone in your group will be asking for a turn.

I love this thing!

I camp with my horse a lot so I hang the shower bag on the side of my horse trailer during the day, then move it inside the horse trailer to take a shower. Even if it's not such a hot day, I can always heat water on my camp stove to add to it and warm it up a bit. I have long hair and find that there is plenty of water for me to wash my hair and shower without running out. I'm buying a new one now as the old one is about 4 years old and has started to seep at the bottom seam. That's my only read 'complaint' with it. All things considered, I think it has held up well and I definitely recommend it to my friends!

Don’t like the ‘open top’ design.

Most solar showers have a bag that seals with a cap. Not this one - the top is completely open. This means that the water (that you are using to supposedly get yourself clean with) can easily become contaminated with dirt, dust, leaves, bugs, or whatever else comes its way. Also, because the bag cannot be sealed, it MUST be hung once filled. You cannot lay the bag on the ground in a sunny spot for rapid heating of the water. And it cannot be filled at home for later use at a car camping site. It MUST be filled where you plan to use it. And it MUST be hung once filled. If the bag could be sealed after filling, it would be a FAR better product.

Always an evening shower while backpacking.

Showers every evening, incredible. The bag is compact when folded and large when full. Built very well and the thin rope helps to hang the bag and is a clothesline. Used it on all trips this summer.

Works great will get you clean

Works really well. Not that much water pressure. But it gets the job done. The rope it came with wasn’t very sturdy so I added my own parachute cord plus a pulley system to make it easier to lift up and down. Plus you can use this to do the final rinse off of your dishes.

Very light, does have chem smell

I bought this for camping, but already put it to use when our plumbing went out. It is very compact, rinses well despite the low flow rate. The pocket case is smaller than a cell phone. It will air-dry pretty fast if you pat dry both sides first. Cons: it does have a faint, sweet chemical smell, like pool toys; it does make me question its safety and impact for frequent use. (Its value depends on how much worse you smelled before using it, lol). I can see this being very helpful for things like hunting or backcountry firefighting. If you're at a family campground with clean taps, you might want to just consider a washcloth bath.

Welcome addition to camp site

This is one of the few "extras" I threw into my pack before hiking the John Muir Trail, and I'm really glad I did. We used it mostly as a water source in camp, but also used it to wash hair. Less than an hour in the sun would warm the water up enough to be comfortable, though not hot. A lot of our camp sites were several minutes from water, so this saved us a lot of extra trips, besides giving us warmer water. It was definitely worth the extra 5 oz in my pack. We did not have any problems with leakage or with the string not being strong enough.
