Great Stuff!

I bought this for my 11-year-old son to use as pajamas on an upcoming back packing trip he is doing with Boy Scouts. My son is a VERY skinny kid and always cold, so I hoped these would be warm. This past weekend, he got a chance to "test" this top when he was invited to go along on a camping trip with a friend. When he came home he said he loved it! He said it kept him warm and cozy in his sleeping bag, even though he is skinny. This is a HIGH endorsement from him. He has used this sleeping bag on many camping trips and is often cold. This past weekend he was at a higher altitude, on a particularly cold/rainy weekend. I highly recommend this top. It will keep you child "warm and cozy" in the cold.

Great buy for small adult

I am a short, relatively petite woman for whom regular sizes are always too long, especially sleeves. The Smartwool Kid's Lg. fits me perfectly. Also, I cannot wear normal wool, but Smartwool in the midweight is a wonderful first layer for N. Calif. winter wear. With a fleece vest over it, I am comfortable at home with the heat turned down a notch. And, compared to the Women's version, it's a bargain! There is nothing I don't like about this "underwear" shirt (it looks good out, too).

Compare to REI MTS shirt

We purchased both this item and a comparable REI shirt. The SmartWool shirt seemed a little bit warmer, especially when exercising. However, the REI shirt (which is about the thickness of most T-shirts) was more than sufficient. The SmartWool shirt actually gets very warm when you start exercising whereas the REI one is just about right. If you are not moving around a lot and want to stay a bit warmer, the SmartWool might be the way to go (it's also a bit thicker and more sweater-like).

Best Kid Base Layer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a big fan of good base layers, I wanted my kids to have the best. They have several different base layers (different brands, fabrics) and all have been good - but this one stands out. The Merino thermal base layer keeps my daughter warm through ski lessons and for a few runs after, and is a sufficient layer with an insulated coat to keep her warm all day. My son wore a different base layer and was getting cold when the sun went down at the end of the day, but my daughter was warm and happy all the way through (and she's usually more susceptible to the cold!). Highly recommend to keep those little bodies warm on the slopes!

Soft & Thick

Not the thin base layer I expected, but it’s soft and thick and could be an under layer or worn by itself. (Softer and thicker than the REI brand version.)

Warm soft and well performing

Comfortable, soft, and warm shirt. While it is lightweight (to feel), is thick enough to produce adequate warmth. Washes well (so far). The shirt does have more of a boxy fit, and therefore, is not tight fitting like some long underwear.

Great for picking kids!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 12 years old son loves this thermal base top. He is picky when it comes to texture and was very hesitant. He tried it on and wanted to keep it on. It kept him warm on his scout Klondike Camp/Hike for the entire weekend. I had packed him another pair of thermal layer from a different brand but he chose to keep this on because they are the "most comfy" for him. I will definitely be purchasing more! He will outgrow the XL soon, so I hope the men's small will fit him. A bit worried about snags though...The matching bottoms had arrived with snags on them...

Camp or travel pjs or layering item

We used these in Hawaii as PJs as well as in Utah under ski clothes. They aren’t itchy and we love the cute colors. Wool is known for being a natural fiber that regulates body temperature so it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We’re going on a road trip and plan to wear these 3 nights in a row then wash. Saves space in the suitcase and no, they don’t start to stink until day 4.

Good wear and tear!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son wore this to the zoo (along with his new merino socks!) and loved it. He was hot (it's 110 out) but his sweat died so fast it wasn't uncomfortable and I didn't have to worry about sunblock (hate the stuff). We also took it on vacation and he wore it 4 or 5 days of the 8 we were gone. I hand washed it once (no washing machine available) and then it fell in the creek. After it dried, we finally retired it to the dirt laundry. I was really impressed with how well it wore. He had it on creeks, in the woods, out fishing, playing in the backyard, in the airport - it looked just as good at the end (after it dried from its creek bath) as it did at the beginning - it was just finally smelling like it needed to be laundered! I was hesitant to pay this price for a kids shirt but it was well worth it.

Awesome In Every Way & So Worth It

Bought boys and girls 250 base layer bottoms and tops for my kids ages 4 and 5 1/2. They LOVE it. So warm I can't get them inside (parent win for some quiet time), so cozy they sleep in them (parent win for fewer clothes changes). They've kicked butt in Vermont skiing at Mad River and Nor'easters just north of Boston. Only bad thing is they won't grow with my kids, so I'll be back again next year to size up! But for this year, absolutely fits true to the size chart.
