Nothing more functional

Sunscreen on head & neck no longer necessary. Unlike a baseball cap, can still see out from under it. Stays cool. Accommodates extremely large heads. Does not collide with top of backpack. Improvements? Velcro for holding rear flap up (why?) sometimes snags hat's sizing strap. (I stopped this with a scrap patch of matching velcro.) Otherwise, just a few nits probably true of most sun hats. Not man enough to wear it? Gee, my Norwegian triathalete friend Joel (nee Arnold) just shoved one on and took off. Bottom line: For stopping high altitude skin damage? No contest - nothing else comes close.

What matters in a sun hat...

I did not select this hat for myself, and probably would not have. Having said that, it has turned out to be a great hat for sun protection because it keeps the sun off my face and neck quite well and it is a lot cooler than the hats I did select for myself. It may not look as good on me as the other hats, but looks aren't everything :-). What should you look for in a hat to protect you from the sun? A large enough brim to give you full protection on your face and neck, a good fit, great ventilation so your head stays cool and an absorbent band to soak up sweat.

A MUST HAVE FOR SUN PROTECTION

I found this "Sunday Afternoon Adventure Hat" to be my "Daily Afternoon Adventure Hat!" This hat is the PERFECT protection from the sun. The large bill provides plenty of eye shade and face shielding from the suns harmful UVA / UVB rays. The long flap in the back shades my neck and the overall best feature, you'll forget you even have this hat on because it's so incredibly lightweight. I've gone swimming in a saltwater pool and gone right back to sunning on a raft with no problem--fast drying time!

Lots of Protection but too big?

If you're considering this hat, I would recommend trying on the Sport Hat, which is the smaller model, to see which one would better meet your needs. I find this hat to be great at protecting my face and neck (a neck burn was what prompted me to buy it). However, it seems bigger than necessary. Also, it's hard to pack -- one is supposed to roll it a certain way, but I can't seem to avoid getting creases in the brim.

It's the coolest hat for keeping cool

I have an older version of the hat which has a decorative trim in the front, I prefer that than the new ones which are plain.
