This is all-in-all a great pack. It can be stuffed with everything you need, even for a few days, but is great for just a day pack as well. The best thing about this bag is how comfortable it is! You can barely feel the load, and the bag stays right in place on your back, with great airflow between the pack and your back. My one complaint is that the hydration sleeve is right against your back, and if you have a full 100oz bladder in there, you can feel it pressing against your spine, which is NOT COMFY. Get a small bladder to use with this pack, or put the large bladder inside the bag instead of in the hydration sleeve.
This is my larger daypack that I use during the winter or during the summer if there is a greater chance of a forced overnight. With the top loader, you can cram a bunch of things in there quickly. The loops/straps on the back can hold about everything I carry. You can crisscross the top straps and hold snowshoes very easily (though they will fall off if you get into the bag). The top pocket is large enough for all of the items I need to get to quickly. The only complaint I have about this bag is that the hip belt pockets are very small, really only sized for lip balm, small sunscreen, tape, etc.
i use this pack for everything!!!! riding my bike down town, school, overnighters, weekend trips, and week long trips. this pack holds more than 33 liters. its small but can expand to a good sized pack for minimalist packers. the talon series are very light weight and comfortable. shoulder/ hip straps/ belt are very nice. overall the talon series are made from very nice fabrics. i love the stretchy pouch on the outside. very good for rain gear or jacket! has six tie down loops for tent/ pad/ whatever. i only wish i had two. a 33 for school around town light trips and a 44 for everything else!
I bought this pack as an upgrade (in features and size) to my ever aging Half Dome about a month ago. I decided to bring it with me on an eight day river canoe trip for day hikes. It's size was definitely overkill for what I needed on this particular trip, but it's so light and thin that it fit fine between the dry bags in my canvas pack. I have to say that it is one of the most comfy packs of its size that I've ever tried. My only quip is that sometimes the shoulder straps hurt my traps like the straps are too close together or something. The features on the bag definitely seem to have come from user testing rather than what just seems cool. From the plastic loops on the zippers to the closing system of the main compartment (and the fact that I've flipped the lid multiple times after forgetting to zip it shut and still haven't had anything fall out), this pack is all about function. Ok, it also looks good. The adjustable torso system also works well and helped it fit me like a glove (I'm 6' 1"). Will I be doing any adventure racing so I can use that tow loop? Probably not. But for a minimalist camper/backpacker, I'd mark this as the perfect weekend warrior. And that loop is always there just in case.
This pack is light weight but still very comfortable. You can fit a lot in it. It is perfect for a day hike or longer. I took it on a four day trip and it fit everything I needed. I have another pack the is a 40 liter and I don't use it anymore because this one seems to fit even more. This pack is good for climbing too, I took it on a trip to Mount Shasta. It was big enough to bring everything to the base camp and light weight enough to take to the top. this is a beautiful backpack
Before I headed to RMNP for a fishing trip, I realized I needed something to get my fly rod and tackle up to the mountain streams that we'd be fishing. The Talon 33 perfectly suited my needs, carrying a pair of wading boots, waders, chest pack (for tackle), reel and plenty of extra stuff for the day, along with toggles on the back to lash down my rod tube and net. There are also plenty of straps that, with the addition of a few small carabiners, I could wear my chest pack and the backpack at the same time and not have to worry about stashing my pack once we were on the water. The adjustable torso length system helped fit this to my size (tall and skinny), and despite being low frills, the pack is very comfortable. I haven't overnighted with it yet, but I don't have any doubts it will suit that need just as well.
I have used this pack on several 14ers this year and some snow hiking this past weekend. It is the perfect size for carrying enough equipment to be prepared for anything. Playing in the Rocky Mountains requires you to be prepared for any type of weather year round. It has lots of pockets and straps which makes it easy to comparmentalize your gear and it is comfortable and adjustable.
This is my first daypack purchase and i love it! It is a comfortable pack and i have used it for overnight hikes in the olympic mountains. However if you want to do a multiple night trip i would suggest a bigger pack because this can hold all the essentials, sleeping bag, tent, cookware, water filter, etc. Overall i really like this pack it is durable and all around awesome.
With more than 30 years of backpacking experience the Talon 33 caught me by surprise. I bought it based on the weight, to replace my current daypack. After a few hikes with it I realized it had TOO much room for dayhiking and bought the Talon 22 (see review). But the Talon 33 quickly became my favorite overnighter pack. It is very comfortable. The hip belt and shoulder straps are the best I have ever used in a pack of this weight, and better than many at twice the weight. The air-channel backpanel works very well to keep me somewhat cool (I am a hot hiker). I really like the between-the-backpanel hydration pocket for easy access to my bladder. The pockets are actually useable while I am wearing it, without dislocating my arms. The hip belt pockets are nice for things I want close at hand. The only thing I do not like is the way that the side compression straps interfere with the side pockets when pulled tight.
This is my first pack by Osprey. It is simply perfect in every way. I like to think as my self as a light weight backpacker and it fits everything I need for 4 days. I have hiked with it for over 100 miles now, and would not trade it for any other pack on the market. My Thermarest Trail Comfort pad (deflated) fits nicely in the bladder pocket.
