Necessary periodic maintenance item
Using my Park Tools chain stretch indicator (also purchased from REI), I realized I had deferred some maintenance for my commuter machine, an older Giant FCR, with the chain definitely exhibiting some stretch/wear due to daily wintertime riding through snow/grime. I purchased this new 9-speed chain which includes a quick-link for installation from REI but now my chain skips when powering down on the pedals since I need either a new front chain ring or rear cassette. I'm fortunate because REI sells various levels of 9-speed cassettes. Make sure you buy a chain stretch tool and test your chain annually replacing before it becomes overly worn!
With proper care will last over 5000 miles
With proper cleaning and lube, I get 5K~6K miles before it stretches 0.5% which is the recommended max amount to prevent damage to cassette. I also recommend getting the "Park Tool Chain Wear Indicator" to check for stretch after every lube. I try to re-lube every 100 miles but sometimes forget.
It's a 9 speed chain..
It is a 9 speed chain....I have always liked Sedis/Sachs/SRAM chains...easy to install and they seem to last as long as shimano....I needed a 9 speed chain in a pinch for my daughter's road bike rebuild. I have used KMC, Shimano, etc....but usually always get my miles out of SRAM chains.

It makes a thorough cleaning possible.
I like the power link so I can remove the chain and soak it in cleaner (solvent) which deep cleans it better then any chain cleaning machine. The grit that usually remains on other chains you can't take apart causes wear and makes shifting harder. It shifts very nicely also.
Good replacement for a PC971
Replaced a well-worn SRAM PC971 with this model, as the old chain was noisy and not runnning smoothly. Performance improved, as expected. No detectable difference in quality with this slightly lower model.
chain failed after only a couple of rides
Normally I have good experience using SRAM components, but this chain failed after only a couple of rides (SRAM's version of a quick link, i.e. the "Power Llnk" came apart). Quality control issues in manufacturing??
It gets the job done!
This is pretty much the industry standard. You can get more expensive chains if you want, but they all seem to wear about the same amount and a quick link is easier to work with than a pin that has to be driven in or out. Unless you're riding professionally, or in a crucial race I don't see any reason to upgrade to higher grade chain.
