Great

I wanted to get good gaiters and read the reviews on these one, so I got them and those are the best gaiters. I wear the extra small and fit perfect. They are super heavy duty. No snow or water get in them. It is worth the price.

Not worthy of name "Expedition"

I went on a 42-day backpacking trip and was disappointed that they didn't last that long. I used them crossing streams and while bushwhacking. They were generally waterproof; would have been more if they fit tighter over my boots. The whole cloth part was durable. But both the prongs of the buckles broke, one of the straps almost came off, and one of the straps almost got cut through by talus. Two others in my group had these gaiters, only one person's lasted. They will definitely withstand lighter use, but I was disappointed that they did not live up to their "Expedition" name. Will be returning mine.

Great Gaiters

I bought these gaiter 2 years ago [...] in Alaska. I used them there and lots of times after that back home. I have used them in different conditions, mostly in the winter high in the mountians. For me these are the best gaiters on the market. They are really lightweight, definitely waterproof and they keep the snow out of my shoes like magic. No wonder they are expedition gaiters. If i go to the HImalays I will definitely take them with me. There is not a single thing i dont like about them. There is one thing for sure the OR expedition gaiters are worth their price and i recommend them to anyone.

The only ones that would fit.

I bought these more as a default. I didn't need such high end gaiters but no other brand would fit over my size 13 boots. The XL actually had some room to spare even after I tucked in blue jeans and waterproof pants. I've only used them so far taking the kids sledding but they worked great! Feet first down a hill always leads to snow up my pant legs but not this time. These gaiters kept my pant legs in place and snow free. Couldn't ask for better. Easy to put on and adjust plus they look great. I can't attest to their durability yet but I doubt I'll be disappointed.

Hands Down Best... Worth the $$$.

These are the way to go for gaiters. It's worth the money for something this streamlined and waterproof. The PU strapping is solid. The Cordura is generally abrasion resistent and the GORE uppers keep the water and snow out nicely. Good for scree too. In the winter, watch where you step as the uppers will tear if you accidentally kick em w/ crampons. Clumsily, I've poked a few holes in mine. The fit is great and can accomodate a variety of thickness and cuff styles of pant, while still making a good seal around your boot. I bought a pair of these for my girlfriend last winter for her first time out winter hiking. Didn't want any chance of cold feet or dampened spirits. Also, once you get the buckle adjusted, set it... and forget it.

Tough, but not invincible

i got these for Search and Rescue training and they have held up pretty well. We go through some narly stuff and the only realy damage to these gaiters so far was the little loop, for the extra stirrup to go through after the buckle, was a bit frayed. However, if you want a tough pair of gaiters, you aren't going to get anything much better than these.

Great project with one major flaw

This was my second pair of OR gaiters, first crocodiles followed by expedition crocodiles. I have used both in high altitude mountaineering and deep snow, and they perform great until the crampons go on. Fatal flaw is the attachment of the under shoe strap at the instep. The attachment point is a stitched rubber tab that sticks up just enough to catch a crampon. When the crampon brushes by on what might be incidental contact the crampon hooks the tab and slices right through the stitching. I have returned two pairs of gaiters in great condition but for this tab failing, that is to say I don't make a habit of spiking myself. Older OR models and other manufacturers hide this tab inside the instep - love OR products, but had to switch to TNF product until they address this detail.

Get these gaiters

Just used these gaiters for an attempted winter ascent of the Flume Slide Trail in N.H.What can I say, waist deep snow and I had dry feet the whole time thanks to these gaiters. They fit over my plastic mountaineering boots no problem and the statement about having plenty of room for layers is an understatement.Spend the extra $ for the expedition croc`s--you won`t regret it.

Another Quality Product From O.R.!

Bought these to play in the snow in the back country. They kept the snow out of my boots, kept my feet warm, and lower legs dry. The upper straps need to be built a little more sturdy; like the rest of the gaiter. Note: If you have BIG calves like me, you might find it a challenge to keep the gaiters up.

also...

alright, so I must add: These gaiters do not seem to fit as well as other gaiters. they don't have a fitted look behind your calf. other gatiers havea better, sportier look which is preferred.
