Emergency Purchase That I Regret

My bike was in need of some routine home maintenance, and a transition between wheel on and direct drive trainer. I made the purchase in hopes of making some of the maintenance and cleaning easier. I completely regret the purchase as this is easily the least durable tool I’ve ever come across. The tool split in half as soon as I started rotating the chain. I have a hard time understanding why REI carries something of such low quality. I know you get what you pay for, and $15 isn’t that expensive, but having the tool break on first use is ridiculous.

Works as advertised

The Pedro's Chain Keeper was recommended to me by the REI mechanic in order to keep the citrus degreaser from entering the rear hub and fudging up the bearings. So far, the product has been terrific. I've seen reviews that due to the plastic construction, they are fairly easy to break. I can understand that, but through several cleanings this product has shown no signs of wear.

Bad manufacturing

Had it for about 6 months; it worked ok at first , then it cracked and fell apart. Bought a metal keeper from another manufacturer

Tight and tidy

Very handy for wheel-off storage or transport. Keeps the driveline tidy allowing the derailleur to keep the chain in tension so it doesn't flop all over the place. Good for boxing the bike for travel. Only thing I could wish for is for it to span the dropouts across the fork for some minor crush resistance, but then we would have to worry about sizes. This is one size fits all.
