Solid rack for 2 boards
I have had this rack for about 8 years. First thing to go where the plastic tightening deals on the straps. I replaced these early on with a set of metal tighteners and kept the plastic tabs that hook onto the feet. Next thing to go (about 6 years into owning the product) where the rubber pieces on the feet. They finally completely disintegrated this past August. For the past few months I have been using towels to protect my board. That's getting old. I'm happy enough with the product that I'm going to replace the entire set. It's a super easy system and works well with my rails on the top of my Jeep.
Excellent Surboard Rack
This is an excellent surfboard attachment. It works well on my factory rack and Thule car rack. The attachment does an excellent job at securing boards to the roof of my cars. The only downsides are that the board capacity is limited to two, and if you lose a screw you have to order the entire spare parts pack from Thule. I think they charged me [$] for a bag of nuts and bolts. Overall, this is a great surfboard attachment, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Simple setup and use
Easily fits a long board with enough strap length that you can space out the rack end parts so you don't have to crank the straps down hard on board rails. Not so much the case for a stacked longboard and funboard. Barely enough, like an inch, of strap left after tightening it all up on the two boards. Can't really get a grip of the strap to tighten enough to where I'm not gripped by the fear of boards flying away while barreling down the 405...
OK w/ one board; but reliability is poor
I have owned this product for about 7 years. At first I thought it was pretty good; it holds a single surfboard very securely and it's relatively quick and easy to mount on the rack and use. Here are the downsides: The straps are just barely long enough to hold two standard longboards. They would likely not be long enough to hold a SUP and a long board due to the extra thickness and width. Attaching the strap ends to the stanchions is a little awkward, aggravated when used with two thick longboards. It's a little hard to describe, but one must rotate the end down and slide it into the stanchion from the back or the front. Unless you read the directions you might wonder why they are not engaging well. Your friends might damage the stanchion by snapping it in instead. I would probably give 3.5 or maybe even 4 stars if these were the only downsides however after several years of use the bottom metal plate and carriage bolts corroded to the point where it was impossible to remove or adjust the location of the stanchion on the rack rail. The carriage bolt spun freely in the metal clamp and the hand operated tri-nuts were seized onto the bolt as well. I had to cut the bolts with a cut-off wheel in order to remove the stanchions and install another carrier. Due to the compact design of the stanchions, the tri-nut are also hard to grip and use. There is no option of using wrenches or nut drivers to adjust. Maybe if you live in a non-salt environment or will never adjust or remove the product this won't affect you. I have gone back to pads on the rack and bungees to hold down my boards. This method is not even really slower or less convenient
Overall I'm Happy
Fastens to most car's factory racks or aftermarket racks. Best feature is that it holds the board by its rails, so the wax stays on the board and clean. The strap is rather basic and short for stacking two longboards.
piece of junk.
This is very easy to assemble and use; however the base pads turn really easily, so can dent your surf board. The straps are very cheap..broke mine within a month. I would not recommend this product.
Great Surfboard Rack
This is a great rack. Easy to install and use. It does a great job of holding your surfboard(s) securely to the vehicle's rack.
