Works like it should
I bought this to use with my Black Diamond Contact Strap crampons. The crampons fit well in the case, especially with the extra velco strap inside the crampon bag. The mesh top allows the crampons to dry out while the bottom is very durable and protects my gear from the crampon points. Only slightly heavier than the rubber tipped crampon protectors. However, the bag does a good job of protecting other gear from wet or dirty crampons. The loop on the outside of the bag is handy to attach the bag to the outside of my pack.
A tough bag
These are my initial thoughts on this bag. I haven't used it extensively. The design of this bag has CHANGED from the specs on this page. It is now colored orange, much like the BD bag and there is no internal hook/loop strap to secure the crampons inside the bag (hence my removal of a star). It however still appears to be made of heavy duty material. The back and bottom of the bag are covered in a rubber coated nylon that is very cut resistant. The other 3 sides are made of a heavy duty nylon. The top of the bag is a nylon mesh to facilitate the drainage of melted snow/ice after use. There are only two haul loops stitched onto the bag: one big one on the top which works nicely as a handle and a smaller one on the bottom. The bag should be large enough for most modern crampons. It fits my pair of Grivel G12's nicely when they're compacted however they do not fit well with the antibot accordions installed. There is room enough inside to put them aside though. If your crampons do not compact down they will need to be disassembled to fit. The best way to fit them in is to place them point-to-point and set them down flat in the bag. Overall I am happy with the purchase. Pros: Fits most crampons, durable construction, Cons: No internal tie down, could be slightly larger, could have more tie down loops like the BD model.
Too small for my Stubais
This case was long enough for my aluminum Stubai crampons when they were telescoped down, and wide enough for them, but no matter how I arranged them (heel to toe, points together, points apart, offset, etc) the two crampons were way too thick to fit in this case, so I returned it.
