ignorance is bliss
Excellent, as I expect from Park tool. Easy to use, easy to interpret results. If you ride much, and you're thinking about buying this, you might as well order a new chain at the same time. Don't ask me how I know.
disappointed in REI
Ordered this and was excited to use it. It wasn’t until I received the chain checker that I saw on the package that it is not compatible with the SRAM flattop or T-type chains that I use. Nowhere on the REI app or website is this disclaimer shown, and I have now returned it. It’s a great tool if you have a typical chain, but REI wasted my time and money because they didn’t include all of the product information. With these kinds of chains becoming more common, this is a very necessary disclaimer that should be visible to consumers.
Easy, reliable and durable
This chain wear indicator has no moving scale to decipher and it will never need calibrating. There is a notch for indicating 75-percent wear, and another notch for indicating 100-percent chain wear -- in other words, replace your chain immediately. I conservatively replace my chain at 75-percent wear. Chain rings and cassettes are expensive! This tool does exactly what it's supposed to and it's reasonably priced.
Park chain wear tool
I like this tool. It's easy to use and very sturdy compared to other brands. In typical park fashion, it's probably way more rugged than it needs to be, but I'd rather have that than something that breaks. I found the tool very simple to use, drop one end between chain links and see where the other falls. Using this tool (and religiously cleaning the chain) has allowed to me to get a lot more use out of cassettes.
