Should have bought to start my project

If you're planning on replacing either your cables or housing on your bike, do yourself a favor and bite the bullet on these cutters. Nothing else works as well and if you wait, you'll just end up frustrated with a pile of mangled cable housing and a broken pair of side cutters. (Not that I would know.)

While at my local REI picking up some parts this cutter caught my eye. I consider myself a tool nut. Gotta have tools!!! Upon cursory examination the tool appeared to be well constructed. Well to make a long story short.. the cutter smashed the cable! My teeth could have made a better cut. There were only a few strands that were cut. Tried adjusting ate cutter in accordance with the instructions and still no clean cut. Now to be fair this tool may be defective, but to say the least it will be returned. Thank goodness I tested the tool on an old piece if cable and not the newly installed one. I will include a piece to cable with the returned product.

Solid feel

I've used several cable cutting tools in my 30 years as a bike mechanic, and these are my favorite. I really like the built in cable tip crimp, but the cable house ferrule crimp is sadly poor. The Shimano cable cutting tool like this is a little better for the ferrule crimp, but the jaws on this Park are thicker. I also prefer the hidden jaw spring of this Park. The handle is thick, but the flared handle edges near the head catch on my tool bag pouch. The handle clip on the bottom of the tool gets in the way sometimes, when I forget to fold it in. A very good tool that cuts SIS cable house and all standard cables quick and clean and without fraying.

High quality (and pricey) tool to cut bike cables

Using these shears to cut to size the new shifter cable and attach the new end cap, make those tasks a breeze. However, this high-quality tool comes with an equaly high price.

Pricy but Pissah!

Fairly pricy, but beats the heck outta trying every tool of the cutting variety in the house, only to bend and mangle a cable and housing. Spend the duckets, do it right the first time, and get out and enjoy. Peace peoples!

A requirement if you want to do your own cables...

I've never used a set of "real" cable cutters before, and was trying to make do with some regular wire cutters. They ended up fraying the end of the cable terribly, which made it impossible to run through my housings. These cutters made a quick and very clean cut on both the cables and the replacement housings, which turned a long and frustrating job into a 10 minute one! Well worth it, even if I won't use them often...

These are OK cable and housing cutters

We recently moved and could not find my Pedro's or Shimano cable/housing cutters in our packed boxes.... I bought these for a rush rebuild on my daughter's bike. They did the job but do nut cut brake cable housing as well as my Pedro's or Shimano cutters. They crushed the brake cable housing a bit needing me to use my bench grinder to clean up the ends. They worked fine on SIS housing and cutting cables.

Clever Cable Cutter

This was recommended by a kayak shop. While at REI it's in the bike repair section, this was great for cutting some steel cables to fit for kayak skeg and rudder work I did over the weekend. The break is clean, leaving no strands to snag or unravel. I highly recommend for any steel cable repair.

Cable cutting has never been easier

Very good quality tool, I went through a couple cheaper options before purchasing this Cable cutter. I found with this cutter it can cut through housing and wire with one cut. Very happy

Not perfect, but does the job well

This really reduces the hassle of redoing your cable housing. It takes a little practice to consistently cut the housing with a nice flat end and figure out how quickly you need to cut the housing for a clean cut. I imagine there's not a perfect tool out there for this job, but this one does quite well and is so much easier than trying to create a work around using household tools. I also thought the crimper was very slick.
