Features

  • Replaceable pressurized ink cartridge continuously feeds ink to the tungsten carbide ball, allowing pen to write at any angle--even upside down
  • Thixotropic ink writes smoothly and dependably on most surfaces, even under water, on photographs, in freezing cold, extreme heat and in space!
  • Stainless steel, precision-machined socket prevents leaks and oozing yet delivers uniform ink flow
  • Revolving ball liquefies the ink so that it writes more smoothly, more dependably and longer than most pens
  • Medium point, black ink

Nothing Special, but it's a Good Pen:
There's nothing particularly exceptional about this pen, but it does exhibit solid construction and has a nice matte finish. By far the biggest attribute is the fact that it uses a Fisher Space-Pen cartridge (something that many other pens are able to claim) which allows the user to write at altitude, on nearly any surface, even under water. They are very reliable, but do have some imperfections, mostly inherent flaws of ballpoint pens including the requirement of greater writing pressure than a rollerball or fountain and having a less smooth flow. OTOH Fisher designed a better than average ballpoint (that operates in conditions that do not permit the use of a rollerball or fountain pen), so I have no complaints.

Didn't perform as advertised
I bought this to use for my Christmas Bird Count recording in the field. It did not perform in the cold as it was advertised to do.

THE Pen to own!

I have many pens that use the Fisher Space Pen refill (SPR4). Some are by Fisher and some are from other companies. This cartridge is the best writing instrument in my opinion, but the outer pen is what can make or break the experience. Of all the pens that I have the Military Pen is by far the best! Slim and very professional in appearance but very durable in design. It works well at the office or on the trail. Having a writing instrument on your person is a must! I can think of none better than this particular model. The price point is awesome too! I have other pens that are four times the price I paid for this one at REI, I wish I had bought four of these instead!

I thINK it is so dePENdable, am I WRITE?

My Grandmother gave me my first Fisher Space Pen when I was about 7 years old. It looked pretty cool, but I certainly didn't appreciate a good pen when I was that young. I kept it and used it until I lost it when I was about 15. Now, 15 years later, I bought myself a new one.. this Fisher Space Pen Military Pen. I liked the look and size of it, plus it's pretty cheap. Unfortunately I think the one I got was a lemon. I tried writing a lot, but the ink would cut out very frequently. I drew a straight line that looked like morse code. I exchanged it at REI with no problem (are there ever any problems returning/exchanging things at REI? Didn't think so..). The one I have now writes BEAUTIFULLY. Very, very smooth. No smudges. It's just a good, dependable pen. Also, the description doesn't mention this, but the pen "cap" is fixed to the pen. You twist the cap to make the point stick out for writing.

Great Pen!!!

I've found that this is a very convenient pen, and it is perfectly at home in anything from a flight suit pen sleeve to the spirals of a notepad. Overall I think it is an amazing value, much more convenient to me than the bullet pen, albeit a small sacrifice on space. Five stars, amazing product. The only con is a small blob of ink after you haven't written anything for a while. This is due to the pressurized cartridge. I don't notice it because when I take notes, I do not care if the header has a small blob of ink or the like.

Good for SAR

I bought this a few weeks ago for search and rescue. It went through everything the outdoors could think of and it still working fine even after being dropped in a mud pit for a few hours. It is a great pen and outdoes pencils in every category. Great outdoors pen.

Amazing pen.

I first bought this pen around 7 years ago when I was in the military and it just now needs to be replaced. Writes from any angle and even when it’s raining on you. I love it and highly recommend you get this for our door adventures or for the office.

nothing is perfect

Got mine in November 2011 in the Boise store. Luckily I bought a spare refill cartouche with it because the black cartouche that came with it only lasted 9 weeks. Mind you I am not an author so I am not using it above average. The spare cartouche is blue. See how long that one lasts. Both the black and blue smear easily. Nonetheless I'd buy this pen again and recommend it to my friends.

The HumVee of Pens

These pens are built bomber tough to hold up in outdoor conditions. You can write at any angle, even upside down or up against a wall, without skipping or shaking. I have them stashed in a number of places so whenever I have to write important stuff down I have one handy. Pair this with the Write-In-The-Rain pad for a fantastically durable note and info taking set up.

Space Station Necessity!

As I prepare for my next revolution around the sun, I realized I I needed a new writing tool for the captains log. The Fisher Pen is a must have for every astronaut!
