Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended I've been looking for the perfect emergency first aid book to place in our Troop's first aid kits and this one is the best. This little waterproof guide really has a lot going for it. It's packed with instructions for just about any emergency situation, and the tabs make it easy to quickly find the information you need. I like the layout of bullet points giving simple, easy to understand instructions. Anyone can give competent first aid using this manual. Because of the previous post, I carefully looked through the manual and everything seems to be solid and up to date (although I'd suggest adding in the poison control number in the section on poisonings). My edition is dated 2013, so maybe there have been changes from the previous edition. For what it's worth, I'm not a first-responder but I am a long-time nurse practitioner who has worked in both primary care and intensive care settings. I consider this to be a great little guide and if I have to make up any more first aid kits (and I suspect I will) this will go in each one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great companion to actual training. This is a great companion guide to someone who has had actual emergency first aid training. It could potentially be used by someone without training but when paired with training it is a nice guideline to follow in a stressful situation when people easily lose their head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from OUT OF DATE This book may have been OK when it came out in 1993 but it is clearly outdated now. There are much better options. I am surprised that REI would offer such an out of date publication. Shocking! Someone could get hurt.
