Protects Your Lantern!
I have used this type of lantern case for my 28 year old Coleman gasoline lantern for many years. It keeps the lantern free of dust and corrosion, as well as protecting it (and the mantles) from bumps and jostles. I have found the base locking system to be adequate and have never had the base come loose from the upper part of the case. That being said, I always listen for an audible "snap" when pushing the case slots over the tabs in the base.
Good case
Great case, but the bottom could use some sort of device to secure itself to the top portion. If you aren't careful the lantern will fall out of the bottom while you are carrying it by the handle. I use a piece of 550 cord wrapped around the whole thing just in case.
Sensing a pattern?
I have had this case for nearly 20 years. As you can tell by the other, across the board, reviews, the locking mechanism could be improved. With that said, the reality is this thing is great! Sure, I double/triple check that it's locked each time, but when it is, my glass, old-school lantern is ready for safe transport! I marked it as four-stars because, well, five stars is perfection. But this is a four star item you should not hesitate to purchase. As for the plastic quality; again, 20 years and counting. No concerns.
SAVE YOUR GLOBES!!!! BUY THIS NOW!!!
I have never broken a globe when I use this case. I have another lantern in a soft case and I'm 0-5 with that one. Spend the extra money and buy the hard case! Only down fall is the locking mechanism is a little flimsy and I sometimes wonder if the whole thing will open up and my lantern will fall out. So far so good . . . Knock on wood.
Perfect fit for my lamp
This fists my 2 lantern lamp perfectly. There is even a little room between the base and where the lamp locks in to store extra mantles.
Does what it should
Lantern locks tight to base. Mantels can handle a rough ride in this case.
cheap plastic, but does the job
the plastic on this case feels cheap and brittle, but for it's intended purpose it does the job. the black tabs that secure the case to the base do not move, you're supposed to push the green part under the black tab in and out to lock it in place. it's hard to explain, but it seems like a cheap way to secure it. again, it does the job ok. i subtracted one star for the brittle plastic, another star for the cheap locking tabs, and another star for the lack of value (definitely not worth retail, i got mine on sale).
Excellent protection for lantern
Protects the lantern well. Clips at bottom can be a bit fiddly. Still have to remember to release the pressure when traveling on the lantern.
Cheap plastic
I really wished they would have engineered this case to lock in a more sturdy way. The plastic to lock it at the bottom is very flimsy and seems like it could break if you're not careful. I've had the experience where the plastic did not lock properly and the lamp fell out and the glass dome broke. I would not recommend buying this product until they re-engineer the lock (maybe to include a secure clasp, Coleman!)
coleman hard case
I am a long time Coleman user. I purchased the 2 mantle duel fuel lantern and hard case. The fount does not fit into the molded base. I have 3 other, older vintage coleman lanterns-220, 228 one no model number, none of them fit this hard case. overall, I am disappointed in coleman's usual previous top quality.
