Durable & Efficient
These are the go-to cleats for nearly all mountain bike shoes and pedal systems made over the last decade plus, and plenty of road shoes as well. They work about 99% as efficiently as the three holed "road" cleats, however, they are easier to walk in, and considerably more durable.. Even with walking in them at stops on the bike, to and from the house, car, etc. they are likely to last you a couple years before wearing out. This is considerably longer than any plastic cleat I have used. A pro, or very serious cyclist may want a more dedicated design, like Shimano's 3-hole SPD cleat system, but for the rest of us, this is the most functional, practical cleat there is. Know that there are two versions of this style. this is the SH-51, which is for more experienced riders in that the way your foot comes out of the pedal with them is by rotating/twisting your foot. If you've never ridden with clipless pedals before, or have knee issues, you may want instead to go with the SH-56 version, which is "multi-release", which simply means your feet come out of the pedals easier with them. There's not a massive difference between the two, so you may want to head to your local shop and ask to test them if unsure.
Simplistically great product
Simplistic, great product. Fit perfectly into my MTN Bontrager Cambrian cycling shoes
Great for Peloton
I use these for cycling on a Peloton bike and they work great. Definitely go with these for stationary cycling since they require greater ankle motion to release and won't unclip as often during a ride.
Good, but not great
I have an ankle injury, so clipless pedals are more challenging for me than average. I prefer SPDs over all other pedals, and these are, in fact, good cleats. However, because of my injury, I have a little bit of a hard time getting out of the pedal, when using these cleats. So, while I like them, they SH56 outshines them in every way for me, and I would suggest it before the SH51. But I have to emphasize, my problem with these cleats is a problem with my body, not the cleats themselves. I would still recommend them to a friend, but I would tell a friend how much I enjoy the SH56 also.
Great for spinning....
The very knowledgable REI Associate recommended the Lateral Release cleat since I wanted to use it for spin classes. It was good advice and the cleat has preformed as I has hoped. Very happy with it.
Paired with Shimano shoes
But a pair of Shimano spinning shoes and these were the recommended product to go with the shoes. So far no complaints no issues would recommend good price point.
Cleatus! Come on get!
It’s a SPD cleat. If that’s what you need. This is it. You can put it in a taco, but is not recommended.
another great shimano product
They will ware thin if you walk on pavement much as I do, then they release easier, it is a slow degradation until your foot escapes the peddle. I get about 2 years before I need to replace them. Other than that they are great. cheers
OG SPDs
These are the cleats that you are looking for if you started riding SPDs a long time ago and can’t get what you‘re used to at your LBS anymore. They do not release if you lift your foot, only with a firm lateral twist. Thank goodness.
Just what I needed, works well
Easy to attach to my new Shimano shoes. Used a YouTube video for assistance in attaching. You'll need your own tool for attachment.
