Very Handy Upgrade

This is a nice upgrade for newer Yakima products. Having all of your locks keyed the same is obviously nicer than having to fumble through a key ring filled with different keys. I picked up this 6-pack to add locks to my towers and to re-key my 16S box. I probably should have gotten the 8-pack to be ready for the next Yakima purchase, but the price of the 6-pack was hard enough to swallow... I'd have given this a 5-star rating if it weren't for the price. Overall, a good product which does exactly what it's supposed to do. No complaints (other than the price).

Very convenient

The SKS locks, with the right accessories, allow you lock your rack and accessories either to the rack or the accessory itself. By using the core locks, you only need to keep one key with you to unlock these items. The key code is stamped on the inside of the lock core to prevent someone from trying to match a key with your core lock. A much better system than their old locking system. All in all, a very convenient and secure system.

Sticky Key Lock

First off, These locks offer necessary protection that secures your gear but it is not the ultimate security so be cautious... secondly they have worked well for me, occasionally the key sticks (not a huge problem but it's something that gets to me) Finally, I have locks for almost every yakima system I own because the added security is a plus to ensure my gear. FOR EXTRA SECURITY a cable or U-Lock will do the trick =) Happy Trails

Very Convenient

I had six Yakima items, all with different locks and keys. I used this kit to key all of my Yakima items to the same key. What a difference it makes to have this convenience. The kit was very easy and simple to use. Great Product.

Be cautious - only stops honest people

I loved my Yakima roof rack for the months I had it. I bought the locks new with everything, and it was always locked. Turns out that won't stop a thief. Someone actually dented the roof of my car and managed to leverage the entire, locked assembly off the car in just a matter of minutes, in broad daylight, on a busy city street. Far as I know, the locks held up (I don't think there would've been time for all to be picked) but if they can't stop the entire assembly from walking away, that's kind of a problem. So, my advise is to be wary, and take your rack off when you're not using it. If you look online you'll find hundreds of stories like mine, where racks were locked and securely installed, but stolen off a car in just minutes. I do have to say, however, that Yakima offered excellent customer service to me the entire time I worked with them, and any future racks I buy will also be Yakima. There's something to be said about good service.

Love having one key

I bought a set to lock crossbars to the car as well as replace my other Yakima products so I'd only need one key all around. Super easy to use. I wish I had taken the REI staff member's advice to buy more than needed (for future Yakima products). I had miscounted (and didn't want to pay for a larger count box)...so I ended up short and don't have any extras for other products in the future. Just something to think about.

SKS Lock Cores not up to Yakima value

The SKS Lock Cores are an expensive addon that lack quality consistency with other Yakima products. They impress me for cheap materials and poor quality in the finished product. I suspect they are at best a visual deterrent to theft but certainly not a real deterrent. I highly recommend that a weather tight plug be added to deter ice and debris buildup on the cores.
