Buy this, not the universal mounts
Read reviews on both these 23H (horizontal) & universal mounts. Too many people complained about U-mounts being unstable. Went w/ 23H for my factory-mtd Highlander (2003) cross bars. Fit perfectly & feel stable. Need to correct previous comments made by others (if I may). Chiquita - the BARS are flexible so don't blame the 23H! I have same issue. SBBill - said he had to remove same factory cross bars I have. I did not even though 1.25" clearance between bar btm and roof top. Lastly, you do not need the locks (at hefty price); I use a cable lock and lock kayak to the roof rack. For someone to steal the cradles when I am on water will take patience & an Allen wrench.
2011 Toyota 4Runner
23H perfect fit for Toyota 4Runner and Highlander with factory cross bars. Low roof clearance requires removal of cross bars, install mighty mounts, then re-install cross bars with mighty mounts attached. Yakima Mako roof rack requires total of 8 mighty mounts (2 sets).
less expensive choice
Once on our RAV4 factory rack it all seems fine and much cheaper than buying full racks. The problem came in mounting; I already had the bike trays, but needed shorter screws in the front, and there was only one in the package. The instructions were useless, and so it took some improvising to get it all on leaving a bunch of extra nuts and screws which served no purpose. But once done, I think it will all work well.
Do they fit . . . maybe.
Unfortunately REI just parrots what Yakima posts on their disaster of a web site. Looking for a whole new rack system? Sure. Yakima will tell you what fits. But not if you’re looking for attachments/accessories. Yakima’s “fitment” guide is a joke. No surprise that these “fit virtually all factory cross bars” didn’t fit my Subaru Outback. Try ReRack and get what you need the first time.
Mighty mounts.
They seem to fit the standard crossbars on my 2017 Subaru Outback although I have not carried anything with them yet.
Might Mounts - must for using old carriers with a
The might mounts were what I needed get a few more years out of my old Raptor bike carrier. But they way the carrier is built, you can only mount it backwards with the Mightmounts. I feel a bit silly with my bike on my new car facing the wrong way, (and getting bugs in the gears!) but it beats buying a whole carrier new.
This product does the job!
I bought these for my Subaru Outback and find they work perfectly. Great product!
didn't work for us
hoped to be able to adapt our Yakima saddle and rollers for our kayak. They were used before on our Honda CRV but didn't match the Honda Pilot we have now. No go
True Fit Mounting Bracket for 2005 Honda Element
If you want to use Yakima parts on the stock roof rack for a Honda Element 2005 & +/- a couple of years models, this is your ONLY option, and they aren't made any more. I bought two sets.
Perfect Fit
The clamps worked great converting my Yakima racks from my truck to my Jeep Grand Cherokees Mopar cross bars
