Long time since last Swiss.
I lost my last Swiss Knife, but they where always strong and sharp.
best Swiss Army knife form factor
My dad has carried this model for 25+ years and as a younger man I have carried dozens of knives and multi tools for years thinking that the SAK wasn’t “cool”. Now that I’m older I have finally realized why he carried it over other knives and multi tools. It is light enough for pocket carry, has the famous Swiss Army knife scissors, the small blade is perfect for opening boxes delicately to not damage their contents. Flat head driver makes the perfect pry bar for things like lids and staples. The Phillips screw driver on this model is much more useful than the cork screw. Fit and finish are unbelievable for the price point. Lastly and most importantly this is a very non tactical knife that won’t turn heads. You could use it in almost any setting and it wouldn’t appear threatening.
Great, All Purpose Swiss Army Knife
The Super Tinker rocks! For tough screws, the phillips screwdriver is better than an ordinary screwdriver; not kidding. I'd much rather have the screwdriver over the corkscrew. And all the tools are great... and actually work. I've used every tool successfully... except for the "wire stripper". :) I think this model (or the Victorinox "Mechanic", with pliers instead of scissors... which are very handy for grabbing hot cooking utensils when camping)is my favorite swiss army knife. Due to it's compactness and strength, I say these knives are still the best multi-tool for any camping (sorry Leatherman).
Better than expected..a true tool!!
I haven't owned a Swiss Army knife for a long time and when my Gerber broke I decided to give the Super Tinker a shot. I use it as a daily carry knife and needed something that I could carry in my pocket comfortably. From the first day I had it I found uses for it. From adjusting the idle on my friends dirtbike with the screwdriver to using the scissors to cut paper at work, it's been invaluable. The construction is what you'd expect of a Swiss Army knife. Solid and well done. The steel seems to be of high quality and the knife opens and closes smoothly. I highly recommend this knife to those who need a mult-tool for daily use. However, if you need a knife for backcountry use, I'd go with another model. This one seems better suited for daily use and home repair type stuff. If you get this knife, you won't be sorry.
Traditional Knife Quality
There are a lot of pocket knives to choose from. Many years ago I decided that a swiss army knife was the one to give me the flexibility and utility I needed for search and rescue assignments, simple repairs around the house and everything in between. Then recently I had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland. I looked for a authorized retailer and found a few "can't live without" models. I then realized that the knives are perfect for what the locals do - they buy a block of cheese and dried/cured meat and head for the park. The knife is perfect for slicing off a piece of each and chasing it down with a local beer or bottle of wine. The super tinker is exactly the right all purpose knife for my lifestyle. I also now have one of the blade locking models as well. For quality, durability these knifes still maintain that tradition without disappointment. It is an investment well worth the price.
28 years and going strong!
My Dad bought me this knife at an REI store on the way to my first Outward Bound course in 1982. In the 28 years since then it has been used constantly and reliably in every situation imaginable: home, work (geologist), camping, climbing, everywhere. The large and small blades both have their specific functions and hold a razor-sharp edge forever, and are easily sharpenable when they do finally dull a little; SA/Victorinox's can and bottle openers work better than anyone else's; the wire stripper strips wire just fine; the scissors work beautifully (especially for trimming blisters and cutting mole skin! they even cut aluminum cans! and the springs last almost forever, and new ones are easy to come by and replace); the Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers made of Victorinox stainless steel never dull or round-off; the awl punches through anything and stays sharp; the tweezers are great for plucking and holding all kinds of little things; and the toothpick, well it picks teeth and other things just fine. Mine has been used so much that the stainless steel Victorinox emblem on the red side panel actually sticks up higher than the red plastic around it that has been worn down over the years. Oh, and the red plastic panels have never loosened, cracked or come off. So what's more to say? I'd love to get a brand new shiny one to play with, but the one I have just won't wear out. Oh darn!
I feel naked without my Swiss Army knife
I have carried a Swiss Army Knife for the thrity years that I worked in Haiti. It met numerous needs of a tool in an emergency. including one time when the Calypso helocopter pilo needed a tool to make an adjustment on the helocopter. I was irratated when tne TSA appropreated it at MIA after I had gone through 3 security checks prior to arrival at MIA. So I needed a replacement be feel naked.
Tried and True
I think this is my forth Swiss Army knife. I like going ultra light, so whenever I lose a Swiss Army knife, I look for something else that might be lighter with fewer features that I don't really need. I just want a knife and scissors and the tweezers and bottle opener are a bonus. It comes in lighter than any comparable knife I can find.
Love This Knife
This is my favorite Swiss Army Knife. First, it does not have a pocket ripper (marketed as a corkscrew). A lot of great tools are packed into this knife. I love having scissors, a Phillips screwdriver, can opener and tweezers in addition to the knife blade. I have purchased two of these. The first I lost recently to TSA because I forgot you can't carry a pocket knife on an airplane. Anyway, I tried to make due with another pocket knife for awhile, and then I decided I couldn't do without this one, so I bought another. I cannot believe how often a Phillips screwdriver comes in handy. The tweezers are my go to for slivers and tick removal. The can opener is awesome. I have been on a dozen group campouts where the mechanical can opener failed, so I opened the cans with my knife. I've also raced people who were using a mechanical can opener, and I've beat them with this can opener (it does take practice). I cannot be without the scissors. They are great. I'm over fifty, and I have had many different knives over the years. This is by far my favorite, and I wouldn't carry anything else.
good EDC knife
used to carry a large multi tool all the time and find that this does the majority of things i used to use it for. I find the fold out hook pretty useless but other than that its great.
