to make a cool, warm, jacket! This is a jacket that does what is supposed to do and it looks good. Helly Hansen uses their years of knowledge making Norwegians warm in cool fall and cold winter. Waterproof. Breathable. Windproof. It's lightweight, functional, durable, stylish and most importantly you'll stay warm while looking good. The quality and attention to details that make a better jacket were obvious to see when I first tried it on. I love the bright moss color. Winter is better when wearing a bright HH jacket. Don't accept the darkness.
After about 6 years I lost my NF Thermoball jacket. I had stumbled into the one when it was on clearance and I needed a new layer. This jacket performs as well without the quilting, which I never loved. The Thermoball with a fleece under it is amazing—comfortable down to 30 just standing around, and easily 20 if you’re working. Even after only a week I can tell this will be as good. One difference, that has to do more with size than anything: I had the TB in a medium, and it was always just a tad too big. I checked the fit guide and got this HH in a small. The fit is perfect, even for layering with a thin fleece, which is my MO. The weird thing is while I have space in the body, the arms are a bit tighter than I’d like. Enough that they don’t trap enough air and my arms get a bit chilly. You might think I’m a body builder from a description like that, but I’m not. Full-on skinny nerd here. I’m the kind that would have been put in a locker in high school. My arms are regular skinny-kid size. For my part I’d be happy with a little more space in the sleeves. For reference, I’m 5’11” and 150 lbs.
