Smooth as a pourer. Easier than a French Press.
This is our first Aeropress. We are a coffee-fanatical family. We have every method of brewing; everything from a siphon brew to Moka pot, to French press, and a Ratio 8 machine. I very much prefer the smooth flavor of a pourover, Chemex style. French press is so convenient for camping, but I don't like the rough flavor and texture of it. For the past several years, we've been using the GCI pour over kit. It's been great. But I think this will replace it. Flavor is about the same, but so much easier and faster. The Aeropress really is the ease of a French press with the smooth flavor of pourer. This set up allows us to prepare two cups at a time, which is nice. I wish REI just carried the basic Aeropress, but they don't for some reason. Really hoping REI starts to carry the new stainless steel version of this to avoid plastic contact with scalding hot water. If we were going to use this at home, we would get the glass and steel version. But for occasional use when camping/travel, this should be fine. We always travel and camp with the GCI pourover kit but this will be much easier. I have a little Gregory pack which holds this plus two Fellow mugs, Oxo grinder, and a Jetboil. We also travel with a Grayl to purify hotel faucet water, or tap water when camping. It's a perfect little travel setup. Cleanup is a breeze. It's perfect for camping and travel! Coffee is so smooth and delicious. Right now, Talitha, Huehuetenango coffee is our favorite! Give them a try!! Only reason for not 5-stars is the amount of plastic.
