I’ve had the Black Diamond Pursuit FLZ poles for a year now and find them to be excellent, however I am concerned about the durability of the button lock and the connection plastic between the pole sections.Since the Leki Makalu FX TA have a cable connection between the pole sections and what appears to be a more substantial locking mechanism and were on sale I decided to try them out. The extended cross hatched grip is a real plus on off camber terrain. The straps are superior on the Black Diamond poles however. Both sets of poles are superb, will see which proves to be the most durable.BD poles came with snow and trekking baskets, Leki came with trekking baskets only.
Just one hike with these but I was happy with them. I like the way they fold up and can be stacked easily in my pack when not in use. The handles were comfortable too and pole height adjustability was great.
Though expensive compared to some other brands, this is a very solid set of folding poles…small enough to fit in a carry on, with a very robust cable mechanism.
