Lightweight, roomy toe box, great ankle support
For an upcoming strenuous, 11-day hiking trip in Switzerland, I need a pair of waterproof boots with ankle support. My last ankle boots were REI brand and they've been discontinued. I was hoping to find some Oboz that would work b/c I have some Oboz light hikers that I like. In the past, I've also liked Vasque boots but REI doesn't seem to carry those anymore. All my past boots have in common that they have a roomy toe box, which I need because of a bunion at the base of my right great toe. The young lady who helped me in the Dublin store was very knowledgable and brought me about 6 pairs that fit my needs, including some Oboz and some more traditional looking Merrells. I struggled to decide between the traditional Merrells and these Moab Speed 2 boots. In the end, I went with the Moab Speed 2s. My first hike out, my feet felt hot and I was worried that the GoreTex was not breathable enough. Also, both my feet seemed to be swimming a bit in these size 8 shoes. (My street shoe size is usually 7.5 or sometimes 7). I tightened the laces quite a bit, so much that there is some puckering in the upper. In subsequent hikes including two times up and down Mt. Diablo - a 12 mile hike with some very steep sections and varied terrain including dirt, gravel, pavement, rocks, mud, running water, limestone, and sand. The boot performed great!! I have tried thinner and thicker socks and have not had any hot spots or blisters. No rubbing either. The top of my foot is not bothered by the tighter lacing, and I am still able to keep the toe box roomy for my bunion. Also, my feet have not been hot again after that first time. The tread had very good traction in varied conditions. Best of all, the boot is really light for its size. It feels more like a trail runner, but still has plenty of ankle support. I'm very happy with these boots. They are a great addition to my collection.

Wiggly at Ankles
I had such high hopes for these shoes but they do fall short in a few areas. Sole wise, they have great grip and I do not slip. I tested them by walking into a creek and they are DEFINITELY waterproof. They are comfy on 1-2 mile hikes but I worry for how they will be on long hikes, especially backpacking trips. They are pretty loose starting at the ankle on upwards causing the foot to slide around some. Also on the left shoe, because of the looseness, the side of the shoe digs into my body. I would worry it would cause sores or blisters. I want to love them but I need boots that can hold up for long haul multi day backpacking trips and I just don't think these can do that.

Best purchase for hiking Iceland

I hiked around Iceland this week and these shoes got me through the toughest parts. I absolutely recommend getting them. They were comfortable and true to size. I wear a size 8 US (women's) and I didn't need to size up or anything. They were comfortable out of the box and took no time to feel broken in. They were completely waterproof as I did a lot of creek crossings and even forded the river that feeds into the Glymur waterfall. On my way to some natural hot springs I stepped in some deep mud, but most of it came off of the shoes right away and none of it got on my feet inside my shoes. I love the sprig color too. I thought because it was such a light color it would get dirty and discolored quickly, but it has held up everywhere. This was my most valuable purchase for my Iceland trip so far. And to make it even better the shoes aren't made with any animal products. When I need new hiking boots I'll definitely be looking for this brand and style again.

Versatile, Comfortable Boot

Love these boots! I started wearing these straight out of the box for my 2 week trip to Iceland. From city walks to hiking through snow, ice and creeks, these boots kept me warm, dry and comfortable. The GoreTex upper works extremely well, even when my foot got submerged in water. The traction was great for hiking up into the highlands and around the city. And the cushioning/materials kept my feet comfy and dry all day. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a versatile boot.

Happy Feet!

These are the lightest yet sturdiest and most comfortable hiking shoes I’ve ever worn! They are nice and wide in the toe box, have a well-cushioned sole and good ankle support. Looking forward to wearing them on the West Highland Way in Scotland in a couple of weeks.

Love these!

Absolutely love these hiking boots. First time switching up from Hoka Trail Runners (for hiking) and I’m stoked. I had zero issues with them. Very comfortable, great grip, they’re waterproof so you can wear year round & they have great ankle support.

Great lightweight boots!

These boots were comfortable from day one! After a 4 day backpack trip, I found the weight of these to be perfect! At the end of a long day, my legs didn’t feel heavy. I did replace the insoles right away as the ones they come with are pretty minimal.

Too narrow but lightweight hiker with good support

Looks good, light weight but sturdy sole for rocky terrain, however, the shoe is too narrow and tight in the toe box, There is not much volume in the toe area at all. Returned, tried the Wide, but also too narrow.

Finally found my match!

I took a chance and picked these up at a pre-owned sale. They were a half size bigger than I usually wear but they felt comfortable. I added my insoles and walked around the store and went up and down stairs for about 30 min and found them to be so comfortable. I needed waterproof and have struggled to find a truly waterproof boot but I have worn these on wet and muddy trails and I just went up for a hike in the snow and they performed very well. After 10 miles in the snow with spikes and then snowshoes I found that there was just the very slightest titch of dampness on my socks. So slight I'm not even sure I should call it anything. The outside of my shoes were definitely wet but the inside stayed remarkably dry! I wouldn't walk through a river but I felt really happy with their performance. I usually wear Altras for the wider toe box. These are very comfortable for my toes. The only thing I would say is I have slipped a couple of times on wet/rocky terrain in places I haven't slipped with other shoes so I am not 100% confident with the grip but knowing that I am a bit more cautious. I do feel I could wear a 7 in these, my usual size in hiking boots, but the 7.5 with my insoles are working well. No slipping in the heel. Hopefully they hold up!

Not waterproof

Have only worn mine 5x to walk shelter dogs and my feet were soaked after walking in the dewy grass. Will be returning. Very disappointed. I loved these boots but the waterproofing didn’t work
