Got this pack after sending in a 20 year old Osprey that I've been using hard my entire career. The Talon is a good, lightweight little pack, although it lacks the durability and burliness of older Osprey packs. It is easy enough to load and nicely adjustable. I use this as a day pack for work as a professional forester. The buckles routinely fail to clasp eachother if there is debris or snow on the straps, which is frustrating. The zipper is lightweight and will snag on the pack fabric if your not careful. All in all, for the price, its a decent little day pack, not built for durability but rather comfort and weight.
Bought this bag as a replacement for an older Camelbak 22L that I used for about 4 years. Decided to go for the 26L for a little bit extra space since I have been doing longer hikes recently. After this past weekend, I carried this bag for 27 miles on 3 different hikes in Alaska. From technical mountain terrain, to longer gradual hikes to alpine lakes this bag carried all of my gear and was comfortable through it all. The 26L size is cavernous compared to what I thought it was going to be! I carried a arc'teryx shell, jetboil, 2L of water, food/snacks, full size camera and lens and still had so much more space if I needed to carry more stuff. Another reason I opted for the 26 was the new lid. This allows for quick access to all my gear. My only gripe with the bag is I wish there was some sort of compression up top to compress the upper portion of the bag. If I have something a little heavy above the lower compression straps, it will move around a lot when hiking and scrambling. Other than that, I love this bag and can't wait to use it some more!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Incredibly comfortable and built well for efficient packing. It has been great for my long day hikes and air travel.
Ive had my eye on the Gregory Miwok 24L but the opening was rather a bit tight, so I looked into the Talon 26L by Osprey, and I will say, overall the bag is much better. Nicer design, great top opening, but the big con is the comfort. The Osprey bag has a solid back frame with very thin padding. After putting in 10lbs in both bags, you could immediely tell how discomforting the Osprey was. I wish the back was not solid and had better foam pading like the Gregory bag. Not only is the bag uncomfortable, but the straps are also thinner than the Gregory.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hiked through 4 countries in Europe last couple of weeks. Comfortable across shoulders and waist. The strap across the breast was thinner and shorter than I would have liked and bit. Button on small mesh pocket on shoulder strap kept popping off. Since I used it to hold a small flashlight which had a clip it wasn’t a big deal. Pack holds hiking poles and water bottles well (I did not use a hydration bladder). Outer pocket on the back can hold ponchos and additional layers. Overall quite satisfied with my purchase!
Great build quality, comfortable, and the perfect size for what I need. I was able to fit a trail chair, rain jacket, first aid kit, nalgene, binoculars, and personal items, all with room to spare. Only warning for anyone looking at this bag is that I have a Galaxy S23 with a pretty substantial case and it only just barely fit in the hipbelt pocket, so if your phone is any bigger than you'll need to store it in a less convenient pocket. Still, small price to pay for the comfort, capacity, and overall build quality.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Poorly designed mtb bag, but probably makes for a great day hiker. On the bike, the weight shifts fairly significantly. Just not my favorite feel. I also don't get why it wouldnt come with a water reservoir or at least the magnet for the OSPREY reservoir the bag is designed to carry. Not the biggest fan of sliding the reservoir behind the back either. What I really want is a larger raptor 25L. But the 20L syncro seems to be the bag im looking for menos a few liters of space.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took my first hike with the Talon last week. Comfortable and secure, and the integrated back panel and waist belt really helped keep the weight off my shoulders and spine. I thought I would not like having my trekking pole routed underneath my left arm when not in use, but it turns out that the location was handy and I didn’t need to stop hiking when deploying or securing my trekking pole. Looking forward to many more adventures with this pack.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just completed a 7 day 100 mile, inn to inn hike in Scotland and used this every day. Had the perfect amount of space for all my gear. Loved the separate space for the water bladder. The pack was absolutely ideal for the trip. Super comfortable, hardly knew I was wearing a pack. Loved the wide opening at the top made for easy searching. It also packed down nicely and fit easily in my luggage for the flights. Overall, loved it!
The Talon 26 replaced a 20 year-old school-style backpack as I started to enjoy outdoor activities (camping, astrophotography, bike packing) over the past year and I should've made the switch much sooner. I'm over 2 meters in height so fit is the most pressing, and most difficult, feature for me. The adjustable system allowed me to get the fit almost perfect (an extra inch or two would keep the pack from riding up off my hip bones/waist). The difference in a properly fit backpack is night and day. No longer do I feel unstable while on the bike and can carry more stuff with less effort when hiking. The build quality of this pack is outstanding, after a year of hard use this pack looks like new. It's seen everything from blazing hot summer days in the desert to blizzard-like conditions, serene alpine meadows to chaotic city streets, the Talon 26 has served me well.
