I like a lot about this back pack, especially the fact that it can be a carry on, or can be secured for checked luggage. I have two main complaints: while there is a tab to hang a camel water bag to in the day pack, there is no exit port for the tube. I McGivered this so that I use the tab, but the bladder hangs between the day pack and larger pack, but this still puts the weight too far from my body. Ideally, there should be a place for a camel bladder in the larger pack. My biggest complaint is that the day pack does not secure to the large pack high enough, and once full, it sags pulling the weight down causing more muscle strain than needed. I had the large pack fitted the store to my torso, so the fit is otherwise presumably right. In watching the video demo on this site, it looks like the design has been change slightly to address this:e.g. the newer version looks like the day pack uses the snap in buckles to attach the large pack, rather than tricky-to-use hooks that connect to loops too low on the large pack. It also shows that the two straps that are attached to the large pack and secure the small one run through two loops instead of silding under pockets on the small back, which is what mine does: much easier! I'm curious why the pack in the video is not the same as the still photos of the product. I bought mine less than two months ago and am sad I didn't have the option of this improved design.
Travelled for 7 weeks with this pack although I did swap out the day pack for an alternative. The lack of a waist strap on the daypack, for me, just makes it much less versatile but it was easy enough to attach a different bag. Spacious bag, easy to pack/unpack esp with packing cubes. If I was going on a longer trip I would consider upsizing to allow for a bit of extra space as constantly doing laundry does get a bit tiresome but perfect for shorter trips.
How fantastic that my torn rucksack has been replaced under the Osprey lifetime guarantee. Fabulous service, fabulous products. Keep hiking!
