This is a very preliminary review - just wore them at house pre-season, but first impression is… Union may have just changed the game. Three first impressions: 1) Zero heel lift! Last season was my 40th year #snowboarding with my first snowboard boots being Sorels wrapped in duct tape. Every single pair of boots since those Sorels, through every advancement over four decades from ski boot liners shoved in Sorels (which was a mind-blowing improvement in 1984) to the Burton SLX and Driver X, has had some (at least a little) heel lift - even on the first day trying them on. These boots… absolutely zero lift. We will see how they do after a day or 30 on the mountain, but four hours of wearing them today, perfect. 2) they are super comfortable! after hours - even with them snugged up - they are cozy and I can even move my toes! Obviously we will see if this remains so after a day on the mountain 3) I used to race slalom and for a few years even wore Kastinger hard boots so still prefer stiffer more responsive boots. These boots seem to be a sweet medium-stiffer boot. I’m guessing - again, won’t know until I’m on the mountain - they are less stiff than a Burton Driver X but still super responsive. And… they fit true to size. Seriously looking forward to the season.
The best pair of boots I've ever ridden were Travis' model through DC. After he left DC, and hearing rumors that he was going to help Union release a boot division, all I had to do was wait for the release. The moment is finally here! Out of the box, these are hands down the most comfortable Snowboard Boot. The liner is so comfy with the memory foam, but not too squishy to where they will pack out to a sloppy mess by the end of the season. The waterproof shell piece is rugged, and well engineered. There are so many cool materials that went into this boot to ensure the pressure points are eliminated, and the flex helps move the way a snowboard boot should move. There's so much more to these as well, I could keep going, but you should check them out yourself! I've been boarding for a few decades and my riding style is fast and aggressive. Tried everything from Clickers to Flows, and traditional strap bindings (Union Bindings) to boots are still King in my book. I'll update this review after a few sessions, but just walking around in them was enough for me to get excited for first run. If you're on the fence about upgrading, I highly recommend these. Happy shredding!
