For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

I found these hiking boots comfortable right out of the box. I appreciate that they are lighter in weight than my pair of "men's" La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX boots (bought men's version to allow for 2 pairs of wool socks in cold temps). I wore these boots the entire day and didn't having any issues with pressure points around the ankle or foot. They are plenty wide in the toe providing comfort when hiking. I did replace the insoles, as I always do, with a pair of Currex Runpro High Profile Insoles to help provide more arch support where I need it.
