Comfortable, stylish, full foot support
I highly recommend these shoes, if you are looking for a pair of shoes with support throughout the whole shoe, these shoes will not disappoint. Takes about a week to break in, but once broken in you'll love these shoes, benefits of a sneaker, but with looks of leather. Actually provide warmth on colder days, and even get traction on snowy/icy surfaces, highly recommend as an all around great winter shoe.
Very nice looking and comfortable shoe
Got these in low top. These are great! Coming off a pair of Moab 2 lows for hiking I feel these are a definite upgrade in looks and comfort. I think Merrell hit the nail on the head with the styling, I actually am tempted just to wear these as a daily without hiking in them, I don't want to get them dirty! They look fantastic with jeans. Also note that these leather ones are more comfortable than the Speed 2 Goretex version...I tried on that pair and the cut outs for the ankle were higher and rubbed my ankle. There is no rubbing on these, however they are slightly heavier than the Speed 2 goretex. I imagine because this uses leather.
Rugged Performance
These shoes are great as my daily workshoes on the dock or out landscaping. Great traction on multiple surfaces even if a little wet. Vibram tech on the sole keeps you going strong on the most rugged terrain. The leather material keeps your feet dry and adds durability to the shoe, but it does not provide breathability like other materials. I highly recommend these shoes for specific use, but if you plan to use them for extending hiking, I would choose a fabric material so you feet can breathe and not get overheated.
No arch support
They seem well made. I generally trust Merrell shoes to fit and wear well. Unfortunately there is zero arch support in these shoes. Will return for a better fit.
Sole & heel make shoes feel unstable
Comfortable enough, but the sole is "high" and, along with the curved heel, makes for a "wobbly" feeling. I returned them.
painfully tight and uncomfortable
I have an identical pair in green synthetic fabric and they fit and feel great. I bought this pair thinking it would be good to have a leather, waterproof pair. This pair feels drastically different from the fabric pair. I thought that maybe the leather might take some break-in time, but this pair is so tight and uncomfortable even after several weeks that I am starting to wonder if the size is mislabeled. This is a shame, as the construction otherwise seems quite good. I will call to ask about returning them
Love Shoe, Laces Come up Short.
I've always loved Merrell shoes and I do love the Moab Speed 2s I purchased and if I was to change anything it would be I should've ordered a half-size bigger, I ordered a 9.5 but should've gone for a size 10, they are a little tight but I think over time they will stretch. They don't cause discomfort unless I tie my shoes really tight so I avoid doing that. The only other thing is that the laces are too short I find.
Not Good
Very disappointed in this shoe. I bought a pair of the Moab Speed 1 or early model of 2 a few years back & was very impressed w/the shoe. Still have them but worn out so I thought I’d buy a pair of the newer version. Bad choice. Shoe is very stiff, very uncomfortable & not made like the others. My heels come up out of shoe almost all the way on each step & if you lace them up tight for that not to happen, it hurts the top of your foot. Not to mention the elastic piece that is sewn across the top of the tongue that gets in the way of the laces was such a bad idea that I had to remove it. Not Merrell’s best work. I’ve been a loyal, faithful supporter for years & will continue to be but this shoe missed the mark badly. Not tryin to bash you guys because I love your shoes & have had many pairs over years but this model is not good. On the other end of the spectrum, the Moab 2 mids I bought @ same time are ABSOLUTELY UNSTOPPABLE.
Running on the trails!
I have purchased Merrell hiking shoes and boots for years and have never been disappointed. This is the first time I purchased this type of shoe and am extremely happy with the performance thus far. They fit well are light weight and made with quality materials. Time will tell how they perform overall.
Wonderful... so far.
After a horrible experience with the migrating foam in the footbed of a previous leather-upper Merrell, this was a gamble... but so far it's been great. Incredible cushioning, great fit. A few unexplainable hard spots on the uppers noticeable only on steep side-hills. Now on to the desert sand.
