Keeps your soft gloves dry on the mountain
Got these at the start of mountaineering season as a quick waterproof layer to pull on over lighter gloves for wet weather and when the grade gets steep enough to need a hand contacting the snow/ice. Also great for knocking off wind in cooler conditions where you don't want to pull on a bulkier glove for protection. Got caught in some flash rain on Mt St Helens first time out, and they saved us having to swap out gloves repeatedly. No fuss, fewer stops. Combine with a light fleece glove and you've covered for anything over 40 degrees
