This jacket is perfect for my trade(Cell Tower Climber). My Macai is very warm(too warm for 40°F), and had kept me alive during some rough conditions. Have been on towers at 270 ft, with 30mph winds and freezing rain, troubleshooting equipment, and have managed to stay completely comfortable with this peice of kit. I wear it with a simple thermal and hoodie underneath and am very comfortable in >25°F for a full 10 hour day. I do wish that the shoulder pocket were slightly larger, so I could fit a phone in there, . Also, I would personally like the hand pockets to be about two inches higher up, to be more accessible while wearing a full body harness, a little elbow padding, another shoulder pocket, and some glove straps for the sleeves.
Have owned the Macai jacket for ~6 years, and use it for 3-4 months each year. Its warm, practical and the hood and cuff gives great functionality in cold weather. In spite of the aforementioned positive traits, the main zipper has proved problematic. In the jacket's 3rd year the failed zipper was repaired by Arc'Teryx. Unfortunately, after 2 more years (@3 months' of use), the zipper has again failed as a tooth has broken. Although I'm confident that Arc'Teryx will do the right thing and repair it, its a huge nuisance. the last repair took 3-4 months and now, in the middle of a cold Canadian winter, I'm again without my warm jacket. As context, the jacket has never been dry cleaned or put in a tumble dryer. As I've come to learn, a great jacket with a terrible zipper.... becomes a terrible jacket
Spent 12 days in the bitter cold of Iceland, shooting Aurora‘s standing on ice glaciers and just going around in the blistering wind in the outer regions. This jacket kept me warm, dry and free from the icy cold winds the entire time I can’t say enough how great this jacket performed. It is worth every penny.!
I bought this jacket for a trip to Iceland. Very very warm and comfortable. Things i don't like 1- the hood keeps coming off . 2- the zipper keeps getting stuck. For a $1K jacket it is very annoying.
I want so bad to leave a good review. I love the jacket and have had it for quite a few years now. My main issue is with durability. This relates to the cuffs specifically. They have worn through, on both sides, right along the edge. The material was way too thin. The rest of the jacket still looks great and has held up very well. If it wasn't for the issues with the cuffs I would recommend and would buy another. Unfortunately my attempted warranty was declined as it was considered regular wear and tear. I did have the front zipper and a pocket zipper both replaced under warranty. Not a huge deal because it was covered, but also a bit of a quality concern for such an expensive jacket.
The only thing bad about this jacket is one of the many things that is great about this jacket: It's WARM! I wear it on very cold days with just a base layer and I'm fine. And, because it is so light, I feel completely unrestricted in my upper body movement. Caution: You cannot wear this jacket through the airport, mall or other indoor place; you will roast. But it WILL do what it's designed to do which is to keep you warm and dry on very cold and/or snowy days with a jacket that is super light and unrestricting.
I had an 8 year old Macai which was my go to jacket over the years. Decided to get the revised version as it is significantly lighter yet without scarifying the warmth! The fit is also improved which makes it perfect not only for sporting activities but also walking and casual wear… The goretex membrane also seem better for these cold raining fall day! I got the same jacket for my daughter as well (in a smaller size of course) as prefers the Macai to other women offering!
It's warm, comfy, fits me perfect. It's wind, snow and rain proof. I was wanted to buy a Canadian Goose Jacket, but tried and compared with both. I decided to choose this, and this jacket can be more useful on day to day basis, plus it's decided perfect for skiing. I was able to get a 15% off during the boxing week sale. Very happy with the purchase. But if there are more colors choices will be even more perfect.
Bought online. Once received, I tried this on with excitement only to be extremely disappointed. The jacket’s shell is loud. Makes too much noise and sounds cheap. This might be the best jacket on the market but too loud so I can’t keep to find out. Too expensive to keep to know if I could get over the noisy shell. For now, I will stay with my Spyder Pinnacle.
Macai jacket is my top choice for both resort snowboarding and city commutes. brought the second one this year, it keeps me warm, is highly breathable and waterproof and gives me the flexibility to add extra layers when needed. It’s fantastic option for anyone looking for comfort, performance and versatility in one jacket.
