Old version was better.
The old version of the short was much better quality. I LOVED the older version. The material was thicker, with more absorption and wicking ability. These newer shorts feel more "flimsy" and I have doubts that they will last as long as the older, thicker version. I don't really care for the modesty panel, and feel that this was only added because the new material is thinner and lower quality. Also the elastic at the waist is not nearly as sturdy, nor strong. I hear stiches ripping in extremely tight poses, causing concern. Would probably not buy this version again, sadly. So I will have to start looking for a different product. Very frustrating.
Please bring back the original JD Shorts
I have both the original JD short and the current, new version. I practice yoga 4-5 times per week. I prefer the original by a large margin. The original shorts had a much better fit. The material of the original shorts seems to have a courser weave, is softer and is a little thicker. The material of the current version seems thinner and is much more slick, similar to Lycra cycling shorts. The “built in floating modesty panel” is useless because I hang past it, especially in various poses — not bragging, just stating the facts. Who’s looking anyway? Please bring back the original JD shorts.
Perfect yoga shorts
I own two pairs of these shorts. Wore the first pair for a half-dozen sessions and realized they are probably the only yoga shorts I’ll ever need. They allow for free, comfortable movement and wick moisture well. The fabric is even all over, so you don’t have to worry about uncomfortable zippers, seams, drawstrings, etc. distracting you while your full weight is pressed to the mat. They’re an easy choice to buy, especially for frequent practitioners.
prAna Men's JD Chakara Yoga Shorts
Excellent texture, feeling, great fit. The prAna Men's JD Chakara Shorts run a bit large, I think.
Great shorts, wish Prana would bring them back
As others have mentioned, these are a shorter inseam than the original JD short. They are still a very comfortable and flexible short; but the self conscious might be less comfortable leaving the house in them. Good for exercise, biking, yoga and lounging around. I ordered a second pair since Prana seems to have abandoned the idea.
Great construction, Nice feel.
I am 150 lbs and 5'9. I wear size 30 width jeans and regularly wear size medium shorts. According to the chart, small would be my size but I picked medium and it came out perfect with the edges of the shorts only being minimally loose. Modesty panel is present as advertised in the picture and works well. Also a great alternative to bike shorts if you don't need any padding to your shorts purchase.
Fabric has changed
I've been wearing JD shorts for my hot yoga practice for over 10 years. This is my 3rd pair. The fabrication has changed and not for the better. The new short is a thinner, stretchier fabric so the result is more of a bike short. It's totally form-fitting when the old fabric had a little bit of looseness to it. They'll work but I'm not happy with the change.
Great cut, nice feel, good yoga tights
Material nice, wicks water great. Stays up even though there’s no drawstring. Only complaint is the small lining. I’m 6’1” & 195lbs, size L works fine, bottom of leg openings a little loose. Tried XL and it was too big. If you like tighter, go with M.
Old school style was better
Decent hot yoga short but I feel the older style was a better design. These run bigger, are longer, and thinner material. I prefer the tighter, shorter, thicker material of the older style. But still one of my favorite shorts to do hot yoga in.
Need drawstring
Very good shorts. Having a DRAWSTRING would make them great. They tend to get looser around the waist after a short time. I already wear a small. On 2 older pair I need to use safety pins to keep them up!
